Supercharger coolant question

Isn't the cooling for SC a closed system? I have been using a 50/50 coolant mix in mine with the 2650 and the burp tank that came with it. Tonight is the 3rd time i had to top it off. Not a lot, but the fact i had to add some 3x since the install back in November. Appx 2k miles on it since then. I don't see any leaks or fluid on the ground. Is the heat really evaporating it that often? How often are you adding to yours.

It is a dedicated, closed-loop, system. If the system was not vacuum purged, it’s common to need to make several top-offs to get it leveled off. I go through the same thing every time I have work done that requires the blower to come off.

This ^^ its just quite possible there was still air in the system and its working itself out. Took me a bit too before i had to stop adding.

If you are just adding a little here and there it should eventually top up.

Just a note, I had a IC brick start to leak on my 2300 just shy of 3 years after installation. If it never stops decrementing you may want to do a pressure test on the system to see if you have a leak (very unlikely but it happened in my case). I was losing 1/4-1/2 gallon a day out of my Cordes expansion tank. Luckily it was covered under warranty by Magnuson and they sent me out a replacement.

That is definitely a noticeable amount of leaking. I would say I added 4oz or so.

So what I did was pull a slight vacuum on the system using a hand pump. I made a fitting that squeezed into the fill port (yes that is a synthetic cork to a whiskey bottle, lol). I noticed pressure was bleeding and isolated it one section at a time till I got do the IC brick on the drivers side. I used radiator hose clamps (plastic) to isolate sections at at time.

How do you know it is low? Is there a reservoir somewhere to check. I was told there is no reservoir, so I assumed it was tied in with the radiator coolant somehow...

So to be clear, does the supercharger have a separate coolant system, or is it in conjunction with the radiator coolant system

stock and aftermarket SC have independent coolant loops that are isolated from each other.

So how do you check the coolant level for the supercharger...

The stock blower has no reservoir to check, just what is in the hoses, pumps, heat exchangers.

You will also get no warning it is low, all that will happen is MAT will go up, performance will go down. This is due to IAT advance pulling timing when temperatures exceed programmed values. You can see double digit degrees of timing being pulled when it gets bad. Pump will not burn out when it senses no flow, it will shut off. No fault code will be generated.

The official way: http://www.teamzr1.com/ubbthreads/ub...at&Number=4193

The non-official way: https://www.dedicatedmotorsports.com...-p/lt4capc.htm

Most people using a vacuum based system can guarantee the system has had the air removed, the soda bottle method is less precise.

Most people get an external reservoir and solve the issue that way:

2) https://cordesperformanceracing.com/...xpansion-tank/
