REARVIEW MIRROR DASHCAM / REAR VIEW CAM INSTALL
I know the picture that we see when looking at the rear view mirror is typically a shocka - especially for us folks that have the big wang (1LE or fitted afterward). I recently installed a combo rear view mirror mounted dashcam on my 2020 Silverado, and was so impressed that I decided to investigate installing one on the ZL1. I drive transport trucks for a living and rarely peep at the rear view mirror on the Camaro, but as we know the picture we see is less than good. I wanted a dashcam for the ZL1 anyways, so I decided to install a 'REAR VIEW CAMERA' version that would also give me the option of seeing EVERYTHING that is behind me via the rear camera. For the price, it's a no brainer.
Even when I finished my research and purchased what I believed to be the ultimate and most expensive option, it still was only a couple hundred bucks CAD. I'm about a half way through the install and it's super easy. I also needed something to do while she was off the road for winter. This is a awesome mod that can be done in a couple of hours that gives you full 4K front camera and 1080P rear cam recordings with GPS & speed. The bonus is having a 1080P rear view mirror that totally out performs what GM has installed on the non 1LE versions of the Camaro. Win, win, win.... If anyone has any questions, please post. I'll be posting some pictures and possible video over the next week or so. Just wanted to share...... |

What brand (link?) did you use for both your Silverado and Camaro? I'd be interested in both.

This is the model I put in the ZL1 -
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It has a better front camera than the unit I put in the Silverado and also has a little better GUI and better features. I did order a different rear camera, as I didn't like the styling of the one that came with it. The replacement will fit perfectly beside the license plate light - https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This is the model I put in the Silverado. Works great, but wanted to try something different for the Camaro - https://www.amazon.ca/WOLFBOX-Dashca...s%2C224&sr=8-5 I also installed a Blackvue Power Magic Pro in both vehicles. This allows the parking features to run without draining the car's battery. https://www.amazon.ca/Blackvue-Power...s%2C268&sr=8-1 Any other questions....let me know. I'll be finishing the install in the next day or so and will post pictures then. Last edited by Crushed 1LE; 12-24-2020 at 12:42 PM. Reason: syntax |

Any updates on this install? I'm thinking I will buy one too. Only I think the 10" version to more closely match the original mirror size. Also thinking of installing on the inside top of the rear window if it will work though the defrost grid. This would be pretty close to the shark fin oem placement.

Here's a couple pictures of the final install. I ran all wiring to the rear of the car and used the trunk fuse block to source my power needs. Doing this was surprisingly simple - tucked cabling along the headliner, then A pillar, then foot well. Removed the rocker panel "Camaro" trim and followed the existing wiring loom to the rear seat. There is then an opening to the trunk area where I then followed another loom to the fuse block under the trunk carpet.
I placed the GPS sensor om the passenger side dash. It is there temporarily until I can test and make sure it receives an acceptable signal. If it does, I'll remove the double sided tape and place it in the corner by the A pillar - virtually hidden. The rear camera was purchased separately, as I wanted one that didn't have a bracket. Camera wire was easily routed beside the license plate by removing the license plate light fixture. (in my case on the right side). No drilling required. Camera also mounted using quality 3M DS tape. The Power-Magic Pro (battery rundown protection) was mounted using double sided tape, under the carpet in the storage area. This way, I have easy access to it, to turn it on & off as needed. I used plastic wire loom and then covered the loom in fabric wrap, which gives it a OEM look. Power was pulled using fuse 'add-a-circuit' things System requires a constant 12v and a switched 12v (either accessory or ignition), plus a ground of course.I took my time and dicked around with the wiring for quite a while getting it the way I wanted it, but this entire install could easily be done in an afternoon and a case of beer. Let me know if you have any questions. Last edited by Crushed 1LE; 01-11-2021 at 01:54 PM. Reason: addition |

Looks good. What benefit do you get from the GPS connection?
Do you feel the 12" blocks too much forward visibility? |

Did you installed over the oem mirror with straps or did you use a bracket to replace the OEM mirror?
