Red Led tail light not working

Hi guys I just joined on here. Happy to be part of the Camaro mafia. First post! I have an issue with my driver side tail light. When the car is on, my brake signal and turn signal light up and work but when neither is engaged it is dark with no red light showing on the lines

It is a 2016 rs Camaro fifty edition. Any thoughts or fixes would be great. Thanks !!!

If you have a 2016 it’s not a Fifty. If you have a Fifty it’s a 2017. 1967 was the first year of the Camaro.

So your description is a little confusing. To clarify, are you saying when your headlamps (tail lamps) are on the brake lamp and turn signal works but when the headlamps are off they don’t? Or do you mean when accessory/engine is on they work but when it’s off they don’t?

First of all, to the forums

I'm afraid those stationary light elements are hard mounted LEDs and you will need to replace the entire taillight assembly. The good news is that these should be available really, really cheap from people who swap them out for dark GM or aftermarket tails. Try looking in the exterior parts classifieds section.

Hey Guys,

Thank you for the replies! When the car is on, the only time my driver side tail light illuminates is when my foot is on the brake and when i use my turn signal. The red LED line that always stays on isnt lighting when the car is on. My passenger light is on no issue. I even bought a new assembly, plugged it up and still same issue. Fearing it is with a fuse.

Still kind of confusing. What LED line always stays on? You mean the front daytime running light??????

No rear tail lamps should stay on all the time. You have:

Tail lamp that illuminates dim only when headlamps are on
Brake lamp that illuminates bright when brakes are applied
Turn signal that flashes bright to dim when tail lights are on, bright to off when tail lamps are off

Sorry I’m not trying to be condescending, I want to help I’m just not sure what exactly you’re talking about.

Ok so we’ve established you’re talking about the rear tail lamp. The “lines” are your rear tail lamp.

We’ll take this one step at a time. Do both driver and passenger sides illuminate when the headlights are on? Forget the brakes and turn signal for a minute. Does everything light up in the back when the headlights are on?

He probably means the two stationary red light bars at the bottom of the taillight. It's a fixed LED set, if they don't illuminate, it could be anything from wiring to connections to LEDs themselves, I think the easiest is to get an OEM set from someone, but OP will decide, it's also an upgrade opportunity

yea stationary red bars. fixed LED set. No worries dont take it as being condescending just trying to learn and fix if possible. When the headlights are on the passenger side rear tail lamp is on as normal. driver side does not.

yea from my investigation so far seems like a upgrade could happen or a very expensive replacement. I tried replacing the light, plugging into the socket hoping it was just plug and play, same issue/fixed LED not that bright red we all want to see

no i dont. I believe that was what the GM tech plugged in. When i turn the car on the fixed led (stationary red bars) flicker as if they are trying to light up but then nothing

Mine had a similar issue. It turned out the wires were bent causing a short. I would try pulling out the tail lights, straighten the connectors and wires. Make sure every connection and wire is tight. You could even try jiggling the wire to see if it lights up.

It worked for me.

Do you have stock side markers or aftermarket LEDs? I had the same issue on the passenger side. 2 weeks later my wife's car had the same issue. Chevy had to replace the pcm and then reprogram the car. They had no complaints with my car, but when the wife's car came in they did fix it. But said if it happens again they won't fix it under warranty because of our aftermarket LED sidemarkers.
