Just put R888R on my stock A10

After replacing my warped wheel I changed out my tires at 12.5k miles from factory to 285/30/20 and 315/30/20 R888Rs. I live in Texas and I use the car as a daily putting a couple thousand miles on the car a month. Dynoed at 560 whp. Here are my remarks in case anyone is curious.

This will be a comparison with the stock good years supercar 3s. Background I live in Houston, Texas where it is almost summer year long. I roll race quite a bit and do dig races (prepped surface but not a strip) every weekend.

The goodyears when fresh would have wheel spin from anything below 3rd gear on a roll. A 50 roll is where I benefitted most, but sometimes a little wheel spin occurred there. From a dig the tires with launch control on default settings were basically useless. It spins like crazy. To remedy this I do a burnout 4-5s until smoke is coming from the tires. When warmed like this they stick pretty well, but the launch is still not perfect. It will still bog occasionally though sometimes it had hero launches.

The R888R. Starting at around 100 miles the tires stick from basically any speed. As long as you've driven around for 5-10 minutes to get them a little warm (32-34psi) the grip is mindblowing. 2nd gear pulls at 30mph are no issue at all.

Last night I got about 15-20 hard launches in. The tires currently have about 180 miles(2 days old) on them. The launch is incredible. Instead of doing a burn out I stomp on the gas at about 5 mph with all the nannies off and hold on the gas until the tires stick, then reverse back to the line. Out of all the launches I did wheelspin was noticeable on maybe 1-2 launches and then it hooked quickly after. Despite it being around 50 degrees out it just kept sticking everytime I gunned it. It was so confidence inspiring I let a few friends launch it as well and they had no issues either.

Lateral grip is incredible around turns as well, they stick so well it feels like the grip is endless. Triggering performance shift on turns is very easy on these.

I know many have spoken praise on this tire, but I wish to add another review for anyone still wondering about them. There is one issue though. The noise. You hear the tires above 40mph and it only gets louder from there. Driving on the interstate you hear a constant hum as if you're driving next to an 18 wheeler. Do not let anyone tell you it isn't noticeable because it is. Perhaps with a headers and exhaust you won't hear it as much, but when gunning it and going above 100mph they will certainly remind you they're there. I do believe this is livable however, at least for me it serves as a constant reminder I have a kind of "super" tire that keeps the car very planted.

Thanks for reading. I just want everyone to know these tires were certainly worth the money (at least for now. Hopefully my launches weren't too taxing on the tire life.)

I think I will get my ZL1 with Continentals. After which I have no choice except Michelins. Bangkok has Toyo 888 but not our size.

I'll be honest, after a while the noise simply got on my nerves, and there's the pucker factor in a downpour. The best approach IMO is to have a proper daily tire and save the R888R's for the track/strip.

Great review glad you shared this with us. This was well detailed and interesting to read. I wanted to get the Toyos but was concerned about the noise they make. Plus they are kinda pricey lol. I duno if the road noise is that bad as a daily but I’m sure the dual performance you get from them from launching and handling is great. I am curious to know how long they will last you and how they are in the wet. I’m sure it’s not perfect in the wet but with responsible careful driving through rainy conditions I still wonder if there manageable or somewhat still iffy.

Too lazy to switch out my tires all the time lol. I wanted a one and done that was flexible. I don't ever drive in the rain, but I can picture these being scary.

I haven't needed to drive in the rain for some time now. I'd imagine they're sketchy if you go above 30 mph, but that's something you either have to plan for or deal with as a compromise. If I get caught in the rain I'll report back.

I also drive quite a bit and pretty aggressively so I'm sure I'll be able to give a good estimate for the least amount of miles you'll be able to get out of them when driving them hard as a daily. They are pricy though...I paid $1050 for install and all on just the rears. The grip is just so nice though I would be willing to drop it again. NO burnouts needed and it just sticks like glue.

Are the R888R's different size than the Stock tire? If so you need to modify the tire size, vss in the tune, if your not tuned you should get HP tuners just to update these tables.

The rear tires go from 305 to 315 that is it. No way I break warranty with a tune because of different tires.

I have r888rs 305 front and 315 rears . Weeks ago it drizzled not down poor and a car merged in my lane i was moving at about 45mph and slowly applied the brakes and the car slid sideways for a sec and i was lucky there wasn't a curb or it would have been bad. Immediately i came to the forum and found some 19 1Le wheels wrapped in mps . Ill use these until summer . However the r888rs grip is incredible considering my power level , the humming is kind of annoying similar to a mud tire .

I’ll say they’re an improvement over Nittos but I still get a good bit of wheel spin at 824 Rwhp. Next, I’ll be going with the Hoosier DRs.

You're making me think of having a 2 set of rear tires by next rainy season.... a set of PS2 front and PSC2 back for local dry weather, and PSS or PS4S for my country wide touring. Cause when it rains in Thailand, it's usually a freakin downpour. And if I get caught in it, I don't want to have to get a hotel for a few days just because I'm afraid I'll wreck the ride. I cant imagine that wet weather rear wheel traction would be worse than my very light 7, but maybe it will be. Especially with all the low end torque I'm gonna have..... I'm gonna need to put more $$$$ aside for 2 more wheels

I was talking with the service dept at my local dealer & asked if they would do a authorized tune for different size tires & the service manager told me “Not a Problem.”

I'd be curious how they do this. I have shorter tire heights front and rear and wouldnt mind correcting it. Can you get some more info?
