Front struts being replaced (under warranty)
I'd heard a faint ticking noise over the past week or so and just thought it was probably a rock caught in the tires. On my trip this last weekend up to Austin to watch my Longhorns, I had my windows down in traffic and could hear it more pronounced...but only when I was turning.
I dropped the car off today to be checked out and the service writer informed me that it seems like the struts on both sides need to be replaced. Has anyone else had issues with struts going bad? I've yet to track the car so it's not like I've been putting stress on them. Thoughts?

Mine started doing it at 850 miles on the odo, it sounded like someone plucking a spring and it was the front right strut, I had to call GM to get the ball rolling since the DSSV struts are not cheap, but after a month later I got both replaced and I am GTG.

I bought my 17 zl1 with 1900 miles and one of the struts had already been replaced

Can you think of an on road event that may have contributed to premature failure? Like hitting a pothole really hard. Or driving for prolonged periods on really shitty roads? My 2019 has about 3k miles and I've had a few moments when I thought, "that's going to leave a mark".
The only noise I've heard is the shocks compressing over speed bumps. I get a very noticeable bike pump sound in the front on compression and rebound, but the rear is dead quiet. |

Well, I live in Corpus Christi which is not known for the best roads in TX and I may be used to the potholes. I took her on a trip up to East Texas two weeks ago and she ran like a champ...averaged almost 24 mpg. There were a few times where I hit the changes in pavement on I35 but nothing jarring that I can remember but I guess I'll have to pay more attention to the road conditions.

Seems unlikely that both struts are bad causing the noise you are hearing. Have you read about the brake rotor clicking issue some have from improperly seated lug nuts?

DFW, the service writer mentioned that they'd checked that first after getting the car in the air. No joy. Apparently, they can't tell from which side it's emanating from and they're opting to change both. Though, it'll be a couple of weeks before that happens as the parts are on backorder.
Appreciate the information, though!

My ZLE started doing this yesterday! Most noticeable at full lock. I can enduce it by stabbing the brake pedal. Mine is more of a "clunk". Only front DS though.
Took wheel off to inspect but found nothing. |

Likely your swaybar endlink. Visually you won't be able to tell anything is wrong, but the nut doesn't keep enough tension on the joint. It's a known issue on these cars, they loosen over time and clunk. You can tighten the nut and it will go away for a couple of months, then come back. Or you can replace with aftermarket (like BMR) and never worry about it again. |

Both my front DSSV struts were replaced under warranty - not always swaybar links.
You can replicate noise by tugging on the wheel ( near top ) - they will clunk. I believe failure is that strut top bolt comes free. Ie someone forgot loctite.
