LT1 down. approx. 22,300 miles. any help would be great.

this is long. TL;DR below

1 month ago i was on my way home from some canyon carving, no mashing pedal, no nothing, just cruising home. cruising at roughly 55mph in 5th gear when i was approaching a stop light.

so i downshift from 5th->4th, smooth. before i even got a chance to give it gas it revs itself up, cuts power, got jerked around a little, lost all oil pressure, cloud of white smoke in my rear view mirror, and a trail of oil all over the road. tough.

i get it towed to my preferred dealer the next day, find out the problem a day after that. (spun a bearing, which led to broken a pushrod, and a bent rod) luckily my powertrain warranty is still valid so a new LT1 is ordered. i was told everything will be all good within the same week, or so i was told.

New LT1 arrives, gets put in and what do you know! it doesn’t crank. so they order yet another LT1. turns out the forklift driver had dropped the first one. another week or so worth of labor (two weeks at this point) no big deal.

i get a call a week later saying that the car was running good with the new LT1 but now the check engine light is on and popping a code. they run a diagnostics test and find somewhere there’s low voltage. after further inspection it is narrowed down to my APP(accelerator pedal position) but it still hasn’t been dealt with.

i cruised by the dealer today and was told it may take another week or two. is this possible what can it possibly be? any insight would be greatly appreciated. also if this isn’t the correct forum please let me know.

TL;DR LT1 blew up, got replaced, now have electrical issues?

There's nothing anyone here can really do. It's at the dealer getting fixed under warranty.

Look up the lemon laws in your state if you bought it new. Once it qualifies, I would consider filing a claim for it if it's still not fixed.

Sucks that it happened, but if you get a brand new LT1 at 22,300 miles and it ends up being a good motor for you, you scored a free 22,300 miles!

Weird, my engine spun a bearing at 18,500 miles too. This is the first i've heard of it happening to anyone else. Maybe GM sourced weak bearings.... I sure hope not. I have 1500 miles on my new LT1 no issues so far.

Not that there have been alot of spun bearings but more than should be makes me wonder if that is why 19-20 models call for 0w40 oil. If I had a 16-18 model I'd consider switching. Not a golden ticket but something made them change their mind.

They would've made a TSB if that was the cause. It would be easy to spec a different oil to reduce engine warranty claims. That being said, no matter what oil is in there, a bearing shouldn't fail at 18.5k or 22.3k miles.

Shouldn't happen for sure, but by never changing anything we never would get better or see improvements.

Tagged for more info.

Friend of mine sent me the info on the 0W40 oil, which I can’t even get locally. I haven’t looked into but is it only available from a GM dealer?

i wouldn’t be surprised. but like Speedracer stated it’s good to get improvements. Hope your LT1 continues to treat you well.

I got a Trax when I left my zr2 in for work on a light bar. Total shit box but compared to most of my other cars, besides the miata, it was nice and compact plus good on gas so I didn't bagel it all that much lol.
