Exhaust help
Hey guys, I recently got long tubes installed with an x pipe along with an e85 tune. I currently have a complete straight pipe. It’s way too loud. I installed the NPP but removed it as it was too tin can sounding and valves rattled too much. Any mufflers you guys recommend? Thank you

Look into the Borla S- Type axle back. Its the quietest of the 2 Borlas you can get. Next louder is the Atak which is aggressive sounding. I have the Atak. It sounds great but would probably be too loud with your long tubes if it's already too loud.

AWE Touring is pretty tame until you step on it. Actually, even then it's not too loud. Probably about the same as the Borla S-Type on volume. Cold starts have a good snap but it quiets down pretty quickly.

AWE Touring gives you the noise cancelling mufflers, so never any drone. Plus the tips are top shelf.

My ARH long system with cats arrives today. I plan on running it to the factory suitcase. I will post a sound clip after install

I love my AWE touring system!!! Zero drone, and not too loud at low RPMs. Windows up at 75 mph and it's just a faint rumble like you might expect to hear from the factory. My 5.3 Sierra with a Magnaflow is MUCH louder just cruising on the highway. ....but stomp on it and the AWE really comes alive!!! ...i do believe it to be a bit louder than the S type though, although I have no direct comparison. I've heard more than one person say they like the S Type tone better than the ATAK, but the S is just not loud enough.
To the OP, my thoughts are that the AWE might be a bit much with longtubes. I've considered longtubes, and kept the stock NPP in case I go that route, but I understand your issues. I'd take a good look at the S Type. |

One option is to get a pair of high flow cats and see if this tones it down to your liking. Otherwise a muffler is the best option.
Basically any aftermarket muffler that isn't rated to be as loud as possible would do the trick. They would all sound better than the stock NPP without a doubt. The only thing that may still be a concern is the valves which will still rattle. |

Gen 5 LT V8 is way louder with long tubes than the LS's. Start with high flow cats and move on to mufflers if that is not enough. I went with LT's, no cats, 3" mids and Stainless Works NPP mufflers. It was too loud at first, I added the cats and it was just enough for me. I still cringe a little for my neighbors at 5am when I start my car but I went around and asked and no one said they could hear it. Every once in a while I still set off someone's car alarm at work when I start it.
I was going to go with either Stainless Works or Flowmaster as they were the only ones that had NPP function and had a nice deep tone.
