Chevrolet Platinum Protection Plan - Track coverage
My bumper to bumper factory warranty expires at the end of this month on my 2017 SS 1LE. Earlier this month, I received an e-mail offering an extended warranty.
The warranty offers various coverages in time and mileage but it wasn't clear by the text if the warranty starts at the date of purchase or is absolute overall for the car (which wouldn't make sense but with lawyers word games are always possible). So yesterday I called the number in the e-mail to ask some questions. This is an aftermarket company called AMT that does the warranty. I learned that this coverage is “stacked”. So what ever I would purchase would be the starting point for time of coverage. Same for the mileage. The car has 12,000 miles on it so the 60 months/60,000 miles extended warranty would be 5 years from today or 72,000 miles (60k+12k). I then specifically asked if this warranty would continue to cover for track use, as does the original GM warranty. After a long check with the claims the department (I was on hold), the answer was no. This still isn’t a terrible deal for bumper to bumper. But I think it will be pretty easy for them to know that it was tracked and their lawyers would set things up to avoid paying claims. My powertrain warranty is still good for another 2 years anyway. I would prefer to have a powertrain-only extended warranty but that does not appear to be an option. Just some info if any of you get an e-mail like this and are wondering about the details. |
