Question on strut mount

Can anyone tell me if it’s normal for the saucer on the strut mount to have play / be loose? I was cleaning my engine bay and noticed it could spin with maybe 1/16 play. The other side was tight...

I'm pretty sure that's just a cap, being loose isn't a problem just make sure it's still seated every now and then.

anyone know what the center nut under that cap on a 2ss with mag ride should be torqued to? I have identifix and they list a link for with and without mag ride (f55) and when you click on the link with mag ride the description says w/o to 37 ft lbs and when you click on the link to w/o mag the description say w/o mag ride 48 ft lbs so I don't know which one or if either is correct. My friend bought covers and wants to put them on and asked me for the torque spec and I don't know what to tell him

Not sure why you would want to mess with that because the strut is held into the tower assembly with 3 fasteners that are torqued to 16 lb ft. That center bolt is part of the strut assembly and the only reason why you should have to torque them is if the strut was disassembled.

he told me the he has to take the center nut off and the kit comes with a new nut that accepts a bolt (a long nut that threads on to top of strut then it has threads that accepts a threaded stud from the shock tower cover kit)

Hmm, the cap is in the center of the saucer (it’s plastic and allows for the strut to be torqued down to the the strut mount) I guess my biggest question is what the heck does the saucer do? Why is one side in movable and the other loose. I have zero idea what its purpose is.

Torque for the nut that holds the strut to the mount is 37 ft-lb for mag ride. Without mag ride is 44 ft-lb.

I see what you're saying now. Just went and looked at mine, looks like it's formed underneath the core that the strut rod is attached to. Can't see any indication that it's welded either so I'd assume it's just a press fit.

Based on how it's setup, my guess is that it's either meant for preventing over-rotation when the strut is disconnected from the knuckle, adds a little bit of stiffness towards the end of suspension travel range if the strut angle changes enough in normal travel, or helps keel the mount together in rebound. Or maybe a combination of those?

That being said, mine are both tight but that doesn't necessarily mean they all are. I could either see it being knocked loose by hitting a pothole or something that gets a lot of suspension motion in or even just design tolerance allowing some of them to be loose? Can always take it to the dealer and might get it replaced under warranty.

Gday there. Can you tell me where I can get one of those plastic caps for the top of the strut. I am missing mine.
