Uh-Oh
Well here we go, got in my car the other day, pressed the start button and I got a "poor crank". Pressed again, car started and received a Low Fuel light, a Svc. ESC and no cluster gauges. The HVAC was non responsive, no NPP functionality, and the beloved "Check Engine" light on the dash. I cycled the start / stop process again, while opening the driver's door in between (to reset the PCM and same results. I continued to drive the car, pulled into an empty parking lot, shut it off again and this time it started with full cluster functionality, functioning HVAC & NPP, but with a check engine light.
I took it home, plugged my OBD II scanner in and pulled U0100 & P069E codes. Needless to say, I'm a bit nervous as both of these codes have a history of being difficult to diagnose & repair. I'm taking it into the dealer in the morning. Sounds like a possible short, thoughts?.

My thought is I wish you good fortune. Luckily it’s not an intermittent problem. Those can be a b@tch.

My car right out of the box driving in the rain the dash lights went full bright, all gauges would go to zero, no turn signals inside car (actually worked outside), no HVAC among other things. This would come and go depending on weather. Turned out to be moisture getting into a weather pack connector in the right wheel well sending the BCM's into a tailspin, dealer ended up replacing the rear wiring harness, that was 15K miles ago.

Did you by chance check your battery voltage at any time while this was happening? I have heard that a bad battery or low voltage can sometimes make the modules do crazy stuff. |

I appreciate this info, I will look into this myself. This morning I got in, started the car and no issues, no check engine light, etc. I brought it to the dealer and of course, they "couldn't duplicate the problem", and "no codes were stored", so nothing for them to do. Also, the stripe kit they had to order over a month ago to replace my factory stripe kit that's all wrinkled in the front where the hood is vented and misaligned in the rear on the trunk is on back-order with no time-frame as to when it'll be in. This might sound trivial, but if you saw it you would understand. The front is wrinkled badly and Stevie Wonder could have done a better job applying the rear stripes, waaayyyy off center!

My $$ is on the battery. They are notorious for going bad prematurely. When they do, you get all sorts of electrical fault codes and the dash lights up like a Christmas tree.

Especially a car that has been sitting idle on a dealership lot for a while.

I would tend to agree with you, They said they "checked" it and the battery was fine. I may just buy a new one anyway so that I can rule it out, or have an auto parts store run a test on the one in the car and see what that looks like. I'm going to check the two power distribution boxes in the trunk and the battery. I'll let you guys know what I find.

I had my 19 ZLE for about 300 miles, just swapped tires out for michelins (thank God), and got hit by a nasty storm unexpectedly.
Unbeknownst to me, water got in the front passenger headlight harness, travelled to the the cooling fan module, and fried my cooling fan. Because it was winter, I had no idea, other than an acrid odor that I couldn't place. Fast forward about 3 weeks, traffic was stopped, and all the sudden - massive overheating, limp mode, high out of range coolant temperature, etc... I pulled into a parking lot, let if cool, and started researching. Found out about the common headlight harness issue, fan module fried. Took it to dealer and had it back within about a week (this was during the strike - so I was super worried that I would be without my car for a long time.) No problems since. I hope for as good of luck for you as I had! |
