Paint defect HELP!!
Help I found what seems to be my clear coat peeling but it just happened out of nowhere as I cleaned my car 2 days ago and woke up this morning to this.
What I don’t understand is that it seems like underneath is still glossy and I just don’t know how this happened and how to go about it take it to the dealer? They probably won’t take it under warranty and charge me to repaint the whole panel or take it to a independent shop they will probably want to repaint the whole panel too or try to fix it myself? Maybe I could scuff up the flatten out the peeling part really lightly so I don’t damage the base and just respray that part with clear? Idk I just need some help or incite please. |

Are you outside of your bumper to bumper? Was it every resprayed before? I wouldn’t advise you to scuff and relearn honestly, if it was a beater that you didn’t mind learning on ok ... but i have a feeling with you will be unhappy with it and the blend will fail.

I still have Chevy limited bumper to bumper warranty idk if that will help because I bought the car with it being certified and I don’t think it has been resprayed but maybe I just don’t know what I should do in this situation or what’s the best way to approach this

I agree with Mike, if you’ve never done any paint work before, you won’t be happy with the results. Take it to the dealer and see what they say. Paint problems aren’t as easily warranty when you’re on a CPO… See if you can talk to the service manager or the assistant service manager, not an advisor.

Do NOT try to fix it yourself... I'm guessing that part has been repainted for some reason, take it back to where you bought it (under warranty) and have them fix it... If it is NOT under warranty for that, take it to a REPUTABLE paint shop and have them fix it (the place that you bought it from probably painted it in the first place and you don't want them touching it again)...

Talk to a trusted dealer and see if they will cover. If not, go to a body guy who does touch ups and resprays for a living.

Somewhere on your car has been repainted. Some body shops try to blend a clearcoat by over spraying onto the normal clear coat. This rarely works and ends up peeling like yours did.
I had a rear bumper repainted years ago cuz one side was scratched by another vehicle. The clear coat started peeling the following year where they tried to blend it in the middle.
