A new toy coming.

Always been interested in picking up a small, lightweight bike. All the bikes I owned over the last 45 years have been on the large size and fast, most to fast to enjoy winding them out without breaking the law. This little gem is a Kawasaki 2019 Z400. Twin cylinder with almost 45 hp and it weighs in at 363 pounds wet and has 12,000 redline. It is considered to be a "standard" meaning the sitting position is more upright. Found it used at a dealer close by. It has 58 miles on it and still under warranty until Feb 2021. New they run about $5500. Dealers price was fair at $3500 so I gave a deposit and will pick it up by the end of April. Dealer described it as looking showroom new without a mark on it. Seems they have a good customer who buys a new bike every couple of months then trades them in on something different. St Farm told me 100-300 Liability will cost me $20 every 6 months. Plenty of new technology in these new rides, ABS and LED lights are standard.

For the price, its worth a try. If I end up hating it doubt I would lose much. Capable of mid 4's 0-60 and low 13 sec quarter mile, top speed about 125. Plenty of power packed into these new small motors. My other bike is a 2018 Suzuki Vstrom adventure bike so this should fit in the stable nicely.

I loved my little Ninja 300, bought it new and put 20k miles on it until we went sliding through turn 2 at Hallett raceway on our side

Nice!

Looks like a fun ride.

I've had a lot of bikes, mostly sportbikes or sport touring and I finally got tired of the race riding position for the street, and the heavy weight of the touring bikes. My current ride is a Yamaha FJ09... 100+hp and under 500lbs wet with hard luggage, and I love it!

I've been looking for something smaller and lighter to haul on a hitch carrier behind our camper, and hadn't heard of the Z400... I'll have to look it up. I'd been looking at the Versys X, but haven't had a chance to ride one.

BTW, I had a VStrom waaay back in the day. Rode that bike coast to coast and border to border!

3500 is a great price, I actually gave up bikes after 45 years and bought the Camaro.
Grew up on MX bikes, had a HD Springer and Indian DH Chieftain.

I figured after laying the 300 down at the track the only logical option would be to triple the horsepower and get a Ninja 636

Nice bike. That’ll be a lot of fun.
I’m more into HD Touring these days.

My son turned me on to the Kawi. He just bought the Ninja 400 version and is really enjoying it. I preached to him for years you don't need insane power to enjoy a bike or a car (think Miata). I used to own a Yamaha FZ1. Great bike but I was unable to open it up in first or the front end went straight up.
Take a look at the Yamaha TW200 for the hitch carrier. Its not that fast but very rider friendly and will go anywhere. They are like a tank with those big balloon tires.

I like that the OEMs are now making good looking, small displacement bikes! For too long they just threw parts together and didn't care how well they functioned.

How do you sport bike guys get any enjoyment out of driving your ZL1?? Seems like any car would feel dull.

Thanks!! It's a 2005 with ~19k on the clock. ~415whp turbo and a blast but with a 6yo it sits mostly under a cover
