Lightbulb Aftermarket Sunroof install 2016 2SS

So I love almost everything about my Camaro but after having a sunroof in my Lexus I have gotten to where I really miss having one. I know a lot of people have their own opinion on whether or not they think it's a good idea to do an aftermarket sunroof install and that's fine. That being said I don't care what others think about it, I'm looking for some advice on what might be the best aftermarket sunroof to get and also for some feedback from someone that has done an install on theirs. I know the reverse Mohawk probably makes the install a little trickier than it would be on a car with a flat roof so I am also wondering how that is handled as well.

I am more worried about the overall cost. Will probably be cheaper to get another similar Camaro with a sunroof. Just my 2 cents.

The inverted mohawk would require the entire roof be replaced. Your vehicle safety will be compromised as roof replacement is considered structural by insurance companies. If there was ever an accident with the vehicle and the roof safety came into question, even if it was long after you’d sold the car, it could come back to you and you could be held responsible.

Most reputable shops would not even consider doing this for you.

It’s not whether people think it’s a good idea, it’s that it’s dangerous and puts you at a legal liability risk.

I know you don’t know want to hear it but please don’t ruin your Camaro! Most of all body shops wouldn’t even take the job because of compromising the safety of the car and the expense involved. If you want a sunroof then find a used 2017 or 2018 2SS and use yours as a trade in or sell outright because you do have some equity in your 2016. That’s my idea on the matter.

being that the entire roof is a replaceable part as long as it was done like a factory car with sunroof it wont be a problem structurally or with insurance. But it will cost you more then trading in your car for a new one with a sunroof. with the reverser mohawk you would have to replace the whole roof and supports including headliner and trim. https://www.thatgmpartsguy.com/v-201...and-components just a rough estimate of parts is over $2000 + several thousands in labor.

Full 1LE suspension, with BMR adjustable sway bars and links, GM aluminum cradle bushings, Hurst shifter with lighter reverse spring, TWM shifter knob, Tick level 1 transmission. I should have bought a ZL1

You would have to go with an aftermarket sunroof after going through everything with the factory roof conversion. Factory sunroof cars have different BCMs and completely different wire harnesses for the overhead console from non-sunroof cars.

ya your right. so a aftermarket but you would still have to replace the roof and paint.

I've always been of the opinion if you cut a hole in something...water will find a way in. I say keep the roof as is.

DaddyBigStroke69, I know you said you didn't care what people say, yet my advice is don't do it, this conversion will be a world of pain.

You'll either have seepage if the roof gets cut (plus I'm not even sure the reverse mohawk roof panel will work with any off-the-shelf aftermarket sunroof, it certainly doesn't with the OEM part, and a fully custom curved glass panel with custom trimmings will cost you a fortune, and on top there is the whole BCM/electronics aspect); or if you replace the roof with the flat panel that sunroof equipped Camaros have, I bet no one will be able to glue or weld it up as precisely as the robots in the factory.

Is trading the car in or selling it and getting another one with the factory sunroof not an option? It's a 2016, so most of the depreciation hit was already taken, and if you bought it used, then not by you.

Angle grinder will put a sunroof in anything.

When it's stamped? You can grind all day all you'll do is remove more steel. The Mowhawk will still be there.

The only feasible way I can see is cutting out a larger hole, putting in a filler sheet back into what you cut out, and building the seams to the bends for the mowhaw with more steel to make a smooth transition.

It would look like crap but you could make a flat, smooth opening for the sunroof I guess.

Absolutely, it will definitely cut a hole you can stick your head through.
