2018 Zl1 e85?
How does an e85 tune work on this car? I know you buy a sensor but can it run full e85 and is it worth the power gains?

It is probably one of the most cost effective ways of making power power, the gains are pretty substantial. As long as there are no other mods, I think you can get away with full E. Though I haven't done the mod myself, I do have friends who have done it, and all seem very pleased with the results.

I've tuned 2 6th gens with flex fuel, 100% its a great idea. Even if you can only run 50% ethanol there are good gains to be had.

E85 works really well. My car picked up about 50 HP on E85 (actually E66 here).

It's a winner on any boosted car in my opinion. It raises the knock ceiling above MBT, and therefore your power is no longer limited by your fuel. You'll be able to push more timing and actually achieve MBT on E50+. Added side benefit- combustion chamber temps are lowered

Even though they saw it requires 30% more fuel.. the gas mileage is nearly cut in half.
I went from going 4 1/2 days of driving to work to 2 1/2 now.. that's cruise control on in morning not turning it off for 32 miles added with 5 miles of city driving. On the way home a lot of stop n go traffic. basically 340 miles vs 180 miles now.. 93 octane vs full e85.. $2.57 a gallon vs $1.90 (Texas) That's when I was all LPE e85 DI now that I have Direct injection and port it's a little worse but the HP is higher to. It will coast more up front, but I think you will be more satisfied with the following mods vs the bragging rights that you can run e85. I don't think your to a hp level yet that requires you to run it. And unless its about 30 cents difference in the price at the pump it costs more to operate. 103 TB or the LT5 tb conversion ported blower lower pulley or upper but not both Cold air intake headers dsx or SMG low side This will get you 650 to 680 depending on the dyno or tuning on 93. I don't really wan't the hassle with meth but, it would put you in the 700s running it. Its usually 60 to 80 hp gain on Forced induction and around 30 on NA

EDFHOBBIES is far from stock. Your mileage won't suffer that much on an otherwise stock ZL1. I filled with e60 prior to a 250 mile all interstate road trip a few weeks ago. Got a hand calculated 17.5 mpg. I ran the e85 out before the return trip, filled with 93 and got 22 mpg.

I am not a tuner, but i know "lil" bit...
According to the owner's manual, the ZL1 can take up to 15% e85 FULLY STOCK AND NO SENSOR with a stock tune without a problem. The higher percentage e85 will cause problems if the car sits for too long. E85 will separate into its core components: one of the primary ones being water; and we know that sloppy does not compress!! The other bad thing about e85 is when it makes it passed the rings, and it will, it sits in the motor oil in the crank case. While in the motor oil, it still goes through the same separation process, but slower. Motor oil is designed to absorb moisture; however, the sloppy e85 gives off will tip the scales so you must change your oil sooner. Good: More horsepower and tq. Better efficient engine. Bad: Dilutes crank case oil oil has to be changed sooner More trips to the refueling station E85 separates into water in gas tank after sitting too long Gunks up cats Last edited by Krowser; 12-26-2019 at 08:17 AM. Reason: Percentage should be 15% |
