Changed oil and car took 11 quarts?
Got me baffled. I literally drained every oz (not really) out of this pig. Jacked on the driver side and let it drain for about 30 min. Filled it with 10 quarts and it didn't even read on the dip stick?? Put in an 11th quart and it is now about 3/4 up the fill line on the dip stick. I even started it to get the damn car to settle. Now I am concerned.
By the way I made a fricking mess. I am over oil changes hahaha

Both mine took 11 as well but I let them drain for a long while.

When I had my 2016 1SS, and changed the oil, about 10 qts came out and about 10 qts went in.
With my 2017 SS 1LE, the first change I did, I ended up putting in almost 11 qts. After driving the car, I found it over-full according to the dip stick and drained some out. Did some reading of others putting in 11 qts and some people talked about MRC cars not fully setting after being lifted and effecting the oil level reading - some people say it's a thing and some people say it's "BS". Well, my subsequent oil changes after that first one I made sure the suspension gets settled fully (I roll/drive the car forward and back) and I end up putting in a bit more than 10 qts (something like 10.25 qts). Maybe there was a change in the dip stick [design]? Dip sticks aren't 100% accurate, but should be fairly close. I've never ran into something like this in any of my past vehicles. Maybe my "letting the car settle" is BS, but it seems to work, so... |

Capacity is 10qts with the filter. Go with that. Check it after several hours or the next day even.

I’ll have to check mine in the spring but on both my zl1 1le and my ss 1le I added the oil while on my Mohawk two post lift which is level I started them after I added 10 and ran the car in 1st gear slowly to get the rear and tranny to move the fluids around as I do them as well then I shut the car off topped off the trans and diff checked the oil and saw that I needed to add so I took the cars off the lift then moved them to their spot in garage and checked them an hour or so later and they still needed some with the dipstick all the way in. On my z06 it calls for 9.8 and I put 10 in and follow the required procedure and it’s good
I didn’t need the full 11 but it was at least 10.5 but I don’t use the regular pf64 filter maybe that’s the difference because both cars used roughly the same amount and I used the same filter on both but I used the 0-40 Mobil on the zl1 1le and I used 5-30 driven oil on the ss 1le as recommended by vengeance racing as they did the build on the car

10 quarts with filter change. No more no less! States it in the owners manual. That’s what I put in my 2016 SS and now in the ZL1.

My auto shop teacher back in HS used to tell us he'd check the oil level after a change to make sure he didn't have TOO MUCH oil, and to confirm he remembered to put the oil plug back in. Ironically, I HAVE forgotten to do that!!!
DOH!!!!!!!!!

I did that years ago on a Mustang. Four quarts down the filler before I noticed the puddle spreading out from underneath.

Having too much oil is not good either. Dip sticks may or may not be accurate. What I do is go with the manufacturer's capacity of oil with the oil filter changed. I then start the car, let it idle a minute or two, shut it off. I wait about 5-10 minutes and check it again. As long as it is in between the add and full marks I leave it. I check it again over the course of the next couple of days after it sits over night and some times it reads a little higher on the dip stick. It could be a combination of the paper filter initially absorbing more oil initially and/or letting the car sit overnight and the oil fully draining back into the pan. I don't worry too much about filling it to the maximum mark. I just know where it is in between the marks and as long as it does not get any lower in between oil changes, it's fine.

I just changed the oil on my 16 2SS - 10 quarts is what came out and 10 quarts is what went in. I add oil to my new filter before I install it, add the rest to the engine, check level, then start the car, shut down, let it sit for about 10 minutes and check the oil.

Been consistently 10.5 for me, same as the manual indicates.
And hey, if you forget the plug just call it a "flush"...
