2015 z06 or 17 1LE as track car?
I plan to strip the car, put in a cage, and add a tune/pulley.
Seems price point is the same. Which would you choose? Seems I can make z06 a few hundred pounds lighter but overheating at Sebring scares me. Seems 1LE has a wider stance and may be faster in the corners? |

I'm not sure about similar price point. A '17 SS 1LE is considerably less & I feel a better value for a capable track car. A ZL1 1LE would be more comparable to a Z06. My buddy used to have a Z06 & now has a ZL1 1LE...he feels a lot of more confident with it hands down & says its the better overall car. I'm actually going to Sebring next weekend with Chin Track Days.

$5k to fix the cooling issues on the C7 Z06, which you absolutely will have if you track the car. I’ve seen probably 10+ Z06s poop-out due to overheating at various track days in varying temps. The other thing about C7s (I tracked my ‘18 Grand Sport before going back to another Gen6 SS 1LE) is that when rear caster is set correctly they are phenomenal, when it goes out of spec it wants to kill you on track. Caster has to measured/adjusted with a GM specific tool for C7s which most dealers don’t have. Plan on aligning it often if you don’t like shitting your pants. Hands down the Alpha platform is superior in its communication and confidence inspiring balance, although a well sorted C7 is a beast.

Whats your end goal for the car? Prepping for a class, or just a HPDE car?
If just HPDE, I'd go Z06 (prepped and fixed to address heat issues) Built for a class- ZLE Sebring is my home track, I just switched from a race prepped C6z to a stock ZLE, I miss the punch of the z06 (600 rwhp), but Im in a lower class with the ZLE stock, and it is a phenominal track car stock... I can beat it like a red headed stepchild, and it never so much as flinches... But I would prefer to be back in a vette if I wasn;t doing time trials and wanted to be "faster" |

Yeah, the heat issues are a pain in the butt, however once addressed and everything else is squared away, like the alignment, brake fluid, pads, etc., it’s going to move. Couple that with the DSC Sport controller and it practically transforms the car. DSC has some connectivity issues and software compatibility stuff in their earlier models. Of which, as I understand it, they have since fixed. That may sound like a lot to mess with for a stock vehicle but, I think you’ll be surprised at how damn fast it’ll be once it’s good to go.

C5Z is still one of the best bang vs buck platforms out there. That car is legend.

Supposedly it’s actually pretty good. I was giving them shit on the Corvette Forums about their lackluster performance on the Camaro platform, at least in its stock settings. But for the folks who have it there, they all seem to love it. I’ll get it for my Z06 to see how I feel about it but, I’m not expecting a miracle since the 2019 Z06 has revised MRC software already.
