HP tuner or SCT/BDX
What is the general consensus for tuner models. HPtuner with software or the SCT/BDX handheld device?
What are people using and what do people like? I am on the fence. I don't plan on getting deep into the engine at all. So far just bolt ons. Catback, intake, and soon to be headers. At the most I think my mods stop at a lower pulley swap. I don't want to get into fuel, transmission, or internal engine |

Even those mods (headers, new cats (?), pulley and other supporting mods (cooler thermostat with a pulley for example) will require a significant amount of tuning. The LT4 is not an easy engine to tune right. Use HP and take your time if you do it yourself. If you are uncertain, a shop is worth the investment. Just make sure they have experience with the LT4, it is not the same as the good old LS engines.

Yes I plan on a thermostat and possibly new plugs and wires. I just don't want to get to deep in the engine. I got a guy who is going to help me out with the tune if I go with HP. We just don't have a dyno. We are going to have to street tune. He has done several others and I am confident he will do a great job with mine. I want to be apart of the tune so I can learn more. Versus dropping it of at the local tune shop and picking it up when it's over.

A street tune is essential. Good job! You don’t need a shop if you have an experienced tuner or take the time to learn how to do it. Sounds like a good plan.
