Oil dip stick

Does anyone make an after market oil dip stick that can actually be read with clean oil on it?

I have to agree, it is a pain in the butt to read.

I lay it on a white paper towel to read it. It is really the only way to see it.

The days of pulling it out and looking at it while under the hood are gone.

I just let the car sit over night and check it in the morning. Seems to help read it better.

Actually being able to see the oil on the dipstick is one of the two problems I have with this car when checking the oil.

The second is the erratic readings I get. One side of the dipstick will be 3 inches abouve the hashmarks and the other side will be in the middle of the hashmarks!!
It’s amazingly annoying.

I’m subscribed to this and hope someone has some good advice.

My procedure
Check the oil after five minutes of shutting down.
Pull out the dipstick ,and clean it with a towel until it’s completely dry
Stick it back in , turn it 360° before you pull it out
Put on a piece of white paper or a flashlight to see where the line is. you’ll be able to see wet versus dry.
I shoot for “full” being halfway up the hashmarks.

I agree I dont care for these new style dipsticks. I guess its above the hash marks on mine, cause its almost impossible to really tell. Why would they go to this style?

I use a strong flashlight. Makes it a lot easier to read.

Go to your local parts store and get a dye for the oil. You can make your oil green, red, blue. Will make it easier to read.

Be thankful that GM still provides a dipstick ($hitty or not).
My wife's Audi doesn't even have one. You have to rely entirely on an electric sensor / dash reading...you know, because sensors never fail.

While it is a pain, one of the tricks that I like to do when checking the oil is after the car is on level ground and not running for 30 mins or more, I pull the dip stick out and leave it out for 15 mins to let the oil drain back down from the dip stick tube. Don't forget to lay the dip stick down on a very clean area or cloth while waiting. After the 15 mins of the stick being out, I wipe it off good and put it back in to the engine and pull it back out right away to read the level. First time I tried this I was surprised how well it worked.

I also do this on my other cars. Yes, it's a pain cause it takes more than 15 mins to check the oil, but so far it has worked perfectly. Give it a try!

I like this technique. I’m gonna try it next time. Thanks for posting it.

My girlfriend’s 2010 Jetta is a breeze to check the oil level. Easy to see the level on the dipstick and you always get a consistent readings. Unlike ours.

If Phastek doesn't have no one has it... :(

Like what the others have mentioned reading the dip stick sucks because it doesn't instill confidence you are getting an accurate reading. I always check oil level next day without starting the car. For the most part I am satisfied with the reading as I check it 2 or 3 times just to make sure it shows the same result.
