Hey folks! I just had the chance to put my ZL-1 on the track (PIR - Portland) last Friday and it was great.
No question it is the best track car I ever had. Overall the car did great, tires, brakes, no heating issues, all good and better than expected. Best lap was 1:29.9 and I think it can be improved a lot if I get no traffic in and a clean lap. I believe the brake pads and even the brake disks might be due soon. I was hoping to get some recommendations on what would be the best options for the brakes and also tires. What has been proven to work on the track and also do well on the streets (car is my DD)? Here are some pics: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/album.php?albumid=21480 Videos: https://photos.app.goo.gl/nexAAo85ehnubMoD8 https://youtu.be/fg6ldqponfE https://youtu.be/keqEmJc_ZtI The last one has the best lap, right after passing the GT3. Unfortunately, the audio is awful as the window was open and the PDR cam picks up the noisy pretty hard. Anything that can be done (other than closing the window) to improve that? Thanks all for any inputs/tips.

If you are tracking the car, the OEM tires and brakes (pads and rotors) are very good. You will be hard pressed to find better for both DD and track use. Dusting with the stock pads is the price you pay for the lack of squeal (true race pads) or no dust and far less stopping power for pads that don't dust.
The tires are very good, too. They work well when you get some heat in them. They are not the longest lasting, but last far longer than the R version or Cup 2s.

Is the track alignment what is listed in the high performance manual? Doesn't it come like that from factory?

Race pads and SRF fluid will make a big difference. I don't have track experience with the ZL1 yet but I do with a 2015 Viper. On high speed tracks you need pads and fluid.
Call Ken @ https://www.knsbrakes.com/c/home Very knowledgeable and helpful. I bought Hawk DTC - 70 pads front and rear from Ken to go along with an extra set of track only stock rotors.

Thanks for sharing, bet you had a blast on PIR! By the way we have twin cars in Portland, mine is Mosaic Black though. So if someone said they saw you, it was probably me lol. I know it already happened to me a couple of times. When did you get yours, got mine Feb 17?

If you are looking for a streetable trackday tire, the tires on the ZLE are pretty impressive, which are the GoodYear Supercar F1 3R. Also the Yokohama Advan A052 might be worth looking into, but the Yokohama's have very few sizes in 19 and 20 inch diameters.

I've done several track days over the past two years. If this is a road and track car, stick with the OEM pads! They cannot be beat for price and performance. Also - make sure you are using Motul or SRF brake fluid!

I will echo advice of previous posts and say stick with OEM pads. You want to try and balance your pad's braking torque and the tire's available grip. IMO, even with the Goodyear SuperCar 3Rs on my 1LE, there was plenty of braking torque with the OEM pads.
Do change the brake fluid though. I am running Castrol SRF and it has been great so far. |

OEM pads for most drivers is the way to go. Options are G-loc and Hawk for more bite, but these options are not great for daily driving.
However, the brake fluid should be changed to DOT4. So many options for brake fluis, so here is a link to Brake Fluid Data Most folks here prefer Castrol SRF, and Motul 600 or 660. |

I think you can put a small piece of foam over the speaker for the PDR and that might help. Scotch tape it maybe so its easily removable?
I was considering that myself actually as over 60 or so its pretty annoying to listen too on play back. On the advice of one of the guys here stock tires and pads etc..and I only changed the brake fluid to Castrol SRF. Lets face it I personally will never outdrive the car lol |
