Mcr strut issues

How many 6th gen camaro owners have had problems with there front mcr struts. Seems mine is completely blown. The ss is a 2016 with only 24179 miles on it. No track time...just normal daily driver. Also, how much would the replacement cost. The vehicle is out of warranty. They say if you replace one you should replace the other side too. Is this true? That would be some outrageous amount of money?

Looks like the shocks themselves are about $ 375 each at gmpartsdirect.com.

3 84115887 Strut
CAMARO; W/ VARIABLE DAMPING; LEFT
$692.07 $375.80

3 84115888 Strut
CAMARO; W/ VARIABLE DAMPING; RIGHT
$692.07 $375.80

One might probably want to switch out some of the hardware if necessary, but it seems the MCR shocks are the most expensive part of the front suspension. I would have expected them to be a lot more expensive.

Then of course there is the labor, if you are not doing the replacement yourself.

Something does not sound right- struts for 375.00? I replaced the struts on my 2012 SS, got aftermarket Koni's for about 80 each. I was able to put them in myself but alignment of the caster/camber I could not do. I never found a good shop to do the alignment then I end up trading the car.

Are the 6th gen that much different than the 5th that struts would be that expensive?

magnetic dampers are almost twice the price of the non magnetic counterparts.

be thankful you aren't replacing a spool valve damper on a zl1 1le

Hey guys I have a question regarding this. It turns out I have the same issue of the left strut of my Camaro needing to be replaced. It's all under warranty so that's not the issue. The issue however is that before going to this dealership here, I went to another dealership and they told me that the thumping noise was because of my tires and told me to replace 2 tires on my vehicle even though my tires were in good shape. It was only after having the thumping noise return that I went back to them and they told me I need to replace the other 2 as well. Not trusting the dealership at this point, I went to another dealership which told me the issue was just the strut and that they have ordered it and will now replace for me once it arrives. My question is, do I have any basis to go to the first dealership and demand a reimbursement for the tires? Because of them I'm out $600 on 2 tires I didn't need. The issue is not about getting new tires early but rather the fact I wanted to change to different types of tires (Michelin) but because of the dealership I had to stick with these lousy Goodyears and will probably have to for a long time before I can switch tire types. I apologise for any grammatical or syntax errors, English is not my first language.

I don't think there is much you can do unfortunately. You signed the work order and paid. If they were so persistent about you getting new tires when you didn't need them, do you really think they are going to give you $600 out of the kindness of their heart?

I would print out your work orders from all dealers involved. I would ask to speak to the service adviser at the dealer who sold you the tires. I would ask nicely if there is any way they could compensate you for their misdiagnosis.
You got two brand new tires out of this, which does have more value than two old tires.
I would try to get them to offer you a voucher good toward future service. You may be able to get a $100-200 credit out of this. I doubt you will get a cash refund.
