No tune after headers

Im installing longtube headers and highflow cats in my 2016 camaro ss and not getting my tune yet. Is there any cons besides not getting full power?

I installed the same and have been driving without a tune for about 4 months now! Yes, I can definitely tell it needs a tune. Other than the constant CEL light on the dash I haven’t had any problems.

What makes you think you need the tune? Does the car bogg or lag on acceleration?

Careful more air in the engine will require more fuel. If the computer can not add the fuel required then you will have a lean condition. Lean is HOT.

You'll likely get a CEL and who knows what the A/F will be. Why install the headers without getting a proper tune is the real question you should be asking. I'd wait to install them until you are ready to do the tune if it were my car.

All long tube headers move the main O2 sensors and will trip a check engine light, compound that if the person go with a catless system.

You will be leaving around 10-20 rwhp on the table and some drivability as well until it is tuned.

I would get it tuned or the car will run rich. Not good for the motor over the long haul.

I had the use of a 5thGen SS m6 some years ago which had been modified with a cold air intake and a long tube header/off road pipes. This car had a cel but ran flawlessly even on track at an HPDE event I drove it at.

No tune at all but it is not a good thing to do both a intake and headers due to the possibility of a very lean condition which can lead to a burnt piston or worse. Rich is safe but lean is not. The computer may handle one of these mods but may not be able to do both without a tune.

Get your air fuel ratio checked even if you’re not going to get a tune just for piece of mind. Know your number.

You are risking an over-lean condition and that is not a remote possibility. FWIW, I have been tuning GM engines for 15 plus years. Under load, under the wrong conditions, you risk engine damage. May not ever happen, but the risk is significantly greater than a tuned car. Plus, you are not only leaving peak HP on the table, your HP and torque are significantly less throughout, meaning you are never making the power you should. Tune it.

Years ago on one of the Mustang sites a guy asked a reputable big name tuner if he should re-tune his 13-14 GT500 after doing a pulley swap. He was told "no". He was told that he would be fine. He was told about all the people who did pulley swaps and didn't need a tune and they all ran perfectly. I'll let you finish the story your own way in your head...

I thought on pretty much any newer engine once you change something it's wise to get a tune

Well not tuning a blown car after adding more boost and not tuning an N/A car after adding headers aren't even in the same ballpark.

Tuning will give you more horsepower, better gas mileage and better drive ability because it will run rich after headers.

No bogging or lagging, just a little “sputtering” sometimes when accelerating (I guess that might be considered lagging). But the difference in AFM being on or off now is very pronounced! When AFM (DOD) kicks on now to 4-cyl mode, I get a noticeable vibration! I don’t like it, and want to have that system turned off.
I’m finally working on getting a remote tune done now. In the process of installing an AEM A/F gauge...

Could that be shudder? I ended up replacing my converter with a Circle D one.
