2021 Camaro rumors

It does appear with the new Alpha 2 chassis underpinning the new Cadillac CT5 (and later this year a CT4) Camaro's future is locked in at least for five years or more. It will be built alongside the Caddy's and the new Alpha platform should enable the Gen 7 Camaro to lose some pounds (probably around 3400 lbs) and shrink in overall length some. One aspect I heard was one I'm not too fond of: the chopped top low roof line will give way to a lower beltline with more window glass. I happen to love the GEN 6 chopped top look which reminds me of the sexy looking chopped and channeled '49 - '51 custom Mercs of my youth! This info came from a Detroit "informant" - I know it's not much but maybe I'll get more later on!

PS: My new 21" custom Lexani wheels are on now:

The 7th gen is not for certain just yet, but I'd say it's highly likely seeing as how GM will be looking for ways to spread the cost on the Alpha II platform, and Camaro will help to do that.

I think a couple of your predictions are incorrect...just my opinion, but I get the feeling that we won't see the 7th gen until the 2022 model year, but I guess 2021 could be possible....just doubtful.

Also, I don't think we'll see much, if any weight loss for the 7th gen...especially not 3,400 lbs for an SS model. The 4 cylinder model already comes in around 3,300 and the V4 in the 3,400 range, so there is that. No way they are going to pull another 200+ pounds off the SS model.

Last but not least, I wouldn't expect the car to shrink in length. If anything, it may grow just a hair to allow for something better than just "ridiculously small" amount of rear leg room...but on that note, no Camaro is ever going to have good space for rear passengers, so not sure I care about that.

The CT5 is a bigger car than the ATS which it is filling in for, so that could mean we get a slightly roomier 7th gen, but Alpha being modular, means maybe we won't.

OP Beautiful car.

"One aspect I heard was one I'm not too fond of: the chopped top low roof line will give way to a lower beltline with more window glass."

Music to my ears and hopefully a more usable back seat. While looks are one thing, you can enjoy driving more with better visibility, besides being safer. And Chevy already has a two seat sports car, why do they need two? Which the Camaro essentially is, that is a Corvette with more trunk and interior room for stuff. Even the pricing is getting closer.

This ^

I wouldn't be shocked if the 7th Gen actually grows in size slightly. I have confidence in GM that they could actually make the car larger, without gaining substantial weight and still improve performance.

The one thing I think people should temper their expectations about is a performance increase like we got from 5th to 6th gen.

If the 7th Gen Camaro gets any smaller they are going to have to make it a 2 seater. The 6th Gen was pretty much there already.....So I would doubt smaller.

well, if they got rid of the trunk, gave it a hatch back, turned the rear seats around and had your extra passengers get in from the hatch kinda like a reverse urkle mobile ...you could get some people in the back potentially.

Otherwise, the camaro has been a defacto 2 seater since at least 2016 and I'd expect it to remain as such through the next gen.

It seems like the past rumors were that the 6th Gen Refresh would be the 2019, 2020, and 2021 models. The 7th Gen would show up as a 2022 model in the fall of calendar year 2021.

Some rumors indicated that the 7th Gen would skip Alpha 2 and go to VSS-R along with the next version of CT6.

More recent rumors are that GM pulled some of the 7th Gen Camaro team over to help resolve technical issues on C8 and that could delay the 7th Gen Camaro by a year.

Well let's call it "2.5 seater" at least. My kids are absolutely happy to ride in the back, zero complaints about legroom or headroom (oldest is 13), thus I can actually use the car for some family purposes.

OP, Your car looks very nice.

I hope the next GEN Camaro doesn't grow in size... The current model is very close to the GEN1 and that is were I hope it stays. This is a Muscle car not a family truckster JMHO

As far as people talking about the GEN5 having more backseat room. I've owned both and you might have a inch more than the GEN6.... if your lucky

Hopefully the pics show up below of both interiors I have the seat adjusted in the same position for me to drive the car " same front leg room" I'm not seeing that much difference in backseat leg room.

Let's just hope in the end it still has some Camaro DNA, Good Looking style and a lot of HP under hood.
GEN6

GEN5

I read that the next gen Mustang is going to be built on the Ford Explorer platform so its going to get larger and heavier.

I would like to see more HP and stop taking a backseat to the Mustang.

Has anyone seen any renderings as to what the next gen Camaro will look like?

I read that as well but really just a lot of speculation and they were talking 2028 or 2029. That is a long way off.
