ZL1 1LE alignment questions

Curious what you guys are getting for max negative camber out of your fronts??? I am at -2.7 and butchered the outside edge of one of my fronts, rest of the tire is in fairly good condition. Way to much rubber left to have to scrap the tire so I definitely need more negative camber. Do I have to lower the front all the way to reach max neg. camber? Any input would be great.

Thanks

Have you turned the strut top plate to the track position? Im at 2.9 and my wear seems good.

Lowering the front does not change camber. Only front height and spring pre tension.

Yes, plates have been rotated to the track position, currently at -2.7. Al O in an interview stated -3.7 was possible.(link to vid attached)

Just wondering how to get closer to that...

I'm at 2.7 and have even wear on my fronts. Might be an air pressure issue. What are you starting at and what is it when heated up?

Starting somewhere between 29-31, and ending 38-41. Depending on temperature. Running on the high side pressure wise, which I would think would wear the center of the tire more than the outer edge. Outer edge wear indicators, (the goodyear symbol) is still there, just wore the outside inch, inch and a half of the tire.

That's way too high I think. I would drop to 25-26 cold. Try to keep the hot presssure around 33-35.

With a hot pressure that high the tires are maybe sliding a lot during cornering and wearing the outside.

i would drop pressure and see what the wear is and add more camber.

He's right ^ 26 cold start pressure, building to 32-35 on hot tires.

^^^^ Thanks! I've noticed that at 38 and above tires get pretty "greasy" and start to really slide around.

In my past experience, the lower the pressure, the more I roll over the side tread wear indicator, wearing the outer edge even quicker. But if there is no more negative camber to be had, I will be giving it a try. Thanks

I have the same wear issue on the front drivers side only. I have the track alignment, i start at 26 cold and end up around 33/34 hot, but I wear the outside edge of the drivers side tire very quickly (the strip that wears is only about 3mm wide and comes out in little chunks) while the rest of the tire wears evenly. Not sure what the issue is, but i'm going to see tomorrow if I can get more negative camber.

I've found the Supercar 3R's work best at 36-37 PSI hot. Once you get your pressures dialed in, then you can make a judgement on whether your alignment needs more negative camber based on wear and tire temps across the treadwidth. A tire pyrometer is critical to making an informed alignment decision.

You get more negative camber by adjusting the knuckles, just like every Alpha platform alignment.

Camber and pressures will also be dependent on the track you are on as well. The GM recommended may be the best "all around". Play around with it, invest in a tire pyrometer and see what you come up with. Adds some fun coming up with your own set ups as well.
