Dexos 1 and 2 oil
Guys my owners manual calls for Dexos1 but all I’m seeing is Dexos2 oil when searching.
Does 2 supersede 1? |

Dex 1 for the street, Dex 2 for the track.

The owners manaul says: If the vehicle is a Camaro High Performance model, see the Camaro High Performance supplement. which says: LS/LT 1LE, SS 1LE, and ZL1 Change the engine oil to 0W-40 or 5W-40 that meets the dexos2 specification. If you drive like your grandma uses Dexos1 |

Not really.
Dexos 2 supersedes dexos 1 and is the better oil. It is good for both street and track.

dexos2 is meant to deal with diesel primarily and gasoline (in countries with sometimes questionable quality fuel which contains lots of sulfur and junk). It does this at the expense of some fuel economy. Dexos 1 gen2 will be perfectly fine for gasoline engines in countries that have reliably clean fuel, like in north america. Dexos2 isn't necessarily better than dexos1 gen2 if you dont need the extra functionality of dealing with dirty fuel, though having that extra buffer might be better for those who dont mind the difference in fuel eco.
This thread has a neat little graph that is somewhat recent. https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forum...xos1_vs_Dexos2 btw, the importance of dexos1gen2 and/or using dexos2 over dexos 1 gen 1 or some other non-compliant oil is in supercharged/turbo applications where there was an issue with low engine load predetonation causing engine damage due to calcium based additives. The newer formulations use magnesium instead to avoid the issue. |

It sounds like GM and Mobil 1 have found a way to make us all go OCD..
I love it. I'm going to run the regular Dexos requirement in my 1LE. What is says on the oil fill cap....Lol |

If you cannot find your paperwork, " My dog ate mine " you should sign up on My Chevrolet and add your vehicle.
