Damn impressive,Ted! I was sure hoping to get my car up and running this weekend but i still don't have my thicker head gaskets. The shipped from Cometic yesterday so i certainly should be able to knock it out next weekend.
I assume that is your rough idle cam? Sounds sweet, I'm really interested to see how mine sounds with the smooth idle.
I was trying to see the catch can setup in the video. I should probably add one but it's so busy under the hood i haven't gotten around to it. Would it be to my advantage to add the can before i get the motor & blower reinstalled? Not sure if i need to swap out any fittings that are not accessible once everything is buttoned up.

Catch cans are always a good Idea, we can provide and help you with the install.

Ted.

You shouldn’t have to wait much longer to hear my smooth idle cam! At this point, it’s going to be music to my ears regardless of how it sounds. If I had listened to Ted and stayed with the stock short block, I certainly would be up and running by now. I’m sure he is correct that I would be fine at around 8 – 10 psi on the stock pistons, but the motor was already out and, damn, those GPI pistons and rods are sexy looking! Between my machine shop being backed up, then having to wait on custom thickness gaskets from Cometic, this project is taking me far longer than anticipated. I was able to get the motor back in yesterday; all I have left is the blower and a few more incidentals before I’m ready to fire her up! Of course, I still need to figure out how to use HPTuners to unlock my ECM and load Ted’s initial tune – we tuned using an SCT tuner the first go around.

Give me a call when you are ready to start tuning and I will walk you through the process. Ted.

Ted,
When I reassembled my motor with your smooth idle cam and LT4 HPFP, I did not use a lash cap. As a sanity check, I mounted the pump with the mount bolts loose – maybe .10 from tight. When the pump lifter is on the heel of the cam lobe, the pump is sitting flush with the block with no gasket. Is this normal? I was expecting to see a few thousands gap so that I would have a slight preload when installed.

I can't win. Buttoned everything up yesterday, poured in the breakin oil, filled the supercharger coolant reservoir, cycled the pump a few times to purge the air and topped off the coolant, started pouring in the engine coolant only to have it pour right back out from somewhere on the passenger side of the radiator. Performed a bit of troubleshooting and determined the leak was coming from the plastic radiator tank.
For anyone who has not had the pleasure, i can honestly say - I'm not kidding here- i believe i could get the motor out of a NA a8 car faster than removing the radiator. It was an unbelievable pita. I finally prevailed and discovered that the leak was at the location of the intrgral nut that attaches the fan assembly to the radiator. There is a recessed area that appears to be there to prevent the fan bolt from contacting the radiator tank. My radiator is cracked at this point. Don't know how this happened, i used the correct bolts and did not overtorque anything. Ordered a new radiator from gmpartsdirect ($394 eith shipping).
I'm hoping to get the new radiator this week, my wife will be out of town and it will be a perfect time to play with the car and get in a few break in miles in without the distraction of numerous honeydo's.
