Do u guys use 2nd gear on the track?

Gonna be my first time with the 1le and first time at PBIR. palm beach international raceway. Drove an older grand sport on auto club speedway. Can’t remember but don’t think I ever went to 2nd. PBIR seems to have 2 near 90 a Degree sweepers. If anyone’s been there let me know if not just wondering if u guys ever hit 2nd on your tracks". Stock setup, race alignment, and Gys3

If I recall, for best lap time - yes, but you don't have to...see below:

Likely concentrating on a the best line is more important.

Yes, slow turns call for 2nd. Never driven PBIR though.

The problem I have with PBIR is that where ever I want to downshift into 2nd, I end up having to upshift midway through the corner which is not good. However, I have a ZL1 so it's different. What I've started to do is get on the gas earlier to compensate for lack of torque. Bottom line is, if you are in 2nd for a very short time and you have to shift in the corner, you might be better staying in third and saving the time lost in the upshift.

Depending on the track you will need to grab 2nd at some point but you are right that for a lot of stuff you can leave it in 3rd

I’ve tried the “Hairpin” at Buttonwillow raceway Park both ways and based on the data 2nd gear is about .07 seconds faster than 3rd. My minimum speed is about 38.5 mph. Doing it in second involves a shift to 3rd while still unwinding the wheel which can be a challenge. I suspect I can ultimately be faster in 3rd but need more laps in the car to get a better min. speed and to get to full throttle sooner.
