Question Picking up my new ZL1

I am going to pick up a ZL1 I ordered in a few weeks in FL (M6, crush, PDR). Road tripping it home (OH) with some stops along the way (~1000 miles). Halfway through the trip I am going to service the car and replace oil, filter, M6 fluid, and rear diff fluid at a friends local shop. I have a few questions...

For the M6 trans I was going to use royal purple manual trans fluid (Bad Idea?), or should I stick with all ACdelco fluids?
For the rear diff I was going to use Mobile-1 gear oil.
Obviously for the oil Dexos 2 mobile 1 0w-40 and was going to stick with ACdelco filter ( I've heard Wix or Napa gold is better?)
Should I get some magnetic drain bolts (not sure where to find this).
Should I install a catch can at this 500 mile service? (thinking mightymouse).

What should I do when I pick up the car? install rock guards? check the headliner for issues? Other common issues I should be aware of at delivery? Other quick upgrades to protect the car for this trip?

I am planning on putting on a 3M clear bra, roto-fab intake, possible BMR suspension upgrades and titanium lug nuts when I get home from the trip.

Congrats on the new ride, I'm sure the anticipation is is killing you by now.

I have a thread that was pinned at the top of the ZL1 section on the first two service recommendations that includes part numbers and quantities of stuff you'll need. I'll link it here.

I would say the M6 Trans fluid change is unnecessary.

For the rear diff, I would stick with OEM stuff as it has a necessary additive for the eLSD.

For oil, 0w40 ESP and AC Delco PF64 is the way to go.

The Diff already has a magnetic drain plug but the oil pan does not. You can get them from Dimple, Magnetic Drain Plug M12x1.75 - $35.

Catch can is a highly debated topic. I have not seen the need to install mine, FWIW.

When you pick the car up, do the usual walk around. Check for damage, dents, nicks, gouges. Take a good look at the Carbon fiber (if you ordered it). Yes check the headliner. Make sure the front orange spring spacers are removed.

The good old masking tape trick (Covering front facing surfaces and surfaces likely to catch a rock with masking tape) is very common and I do recommend it for the trip.

Also, maybe hold off on the titanium lug nuts...There was a thread about them recently you may be interested in reading.

Hope this helps.

I used Xpel Tracwrap to drive 1,100 miles home in rain and sub 40 degree temps. It took my wife and I an hour to install at the dealership and it came off in less than 5 minutes with no leftover glue residue.

If you look at the car on a low angle in the front, looking up where the "eyebrow" of factory tint is, you should see nothing but black head liner. If you see yellow/white foam/fuzz and the liner coming untucked, then you have the issue.

This thread has a good pic of the issue: https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=438521

If purchased brand new, and it sounds like you did, you have two free oil changes courtesy of GM. You’re now in the system so any Dealership along your route should perform it free of charge. But do you trust a Dealership to do the work? I had no issues on my first change. But on the second one got it back with a boot scuff on my splitter that I didn’t notice until I got it home. And congratulations!

Use the new ESP Mobil 1 0w40 or Dexos 2 5w-30 with a PF64. Rear diff use GM fluid as Mobil 1 doesn't have all of the needed additives. In the tranny I would use GM fluid.

Here is another idea for protection on long trips. I have one of these in the truck and put it on for long highway drives. It’s awesome for Bugs in the summer and general road grim.

I used painter's tape when I drove mine from Miami back to South Carolina. I know there are differing opinions on the fluid changes, but there is no real reason to change any of those fluids. Engine oil if you want but the others are basically lifetime fills unless you do hard track driving.

Congrats on the new ZL1, I am also in Cincy (Ross twp). I believe GM for 19' is only giving one free oil change, check it out.

X2 except I found the rear diff drain plug magnet to be weak when compared to the dimple. So, I went ahead and put a dimple plug in the diff and dimple black hole magnets on the PF64 filter, too. Cheap insurance. Dimple makes quality products.

Congrats on the car. Don’t forget jack pads if you plan on doing any of this yourself.
