Question Question for manual transmission 6th. gen Camaro owners

Hi Guys,

I just came back to the Camaro pack, traded my automatic transmission '14 Corvette Stingray Z51 for an awsome looking dark gray '16 Camaro SS, couldn't resist of going back to the shifter. The only thing that I find bothering is the skip shift. I read on the forum that some of you are using a skip shift eliminator or just adjusted your driving technique. I would like to see which is the trend with a fast survey.
Also could you please mention if you have any issue like a "check engine" while using those devices.
Thanks for sharing!

I absolutely needed it on my 4th gen it was so intrusive, but on my 6th gen I've found, even with the message displayed, it rarely actually forces me to shift into 4th.

As long as you get over 20mph before shifting to 2nd all is well. Even with my AWE catback it's not overly obnoxious.

I've had one in all my Camaros because quite frankly, if I wanted the trans to decide for me when to shift i would have bought an auto. That said, SSE is probably more effective if you are in a high traffic area as opposed to a rural area.

To each their own but I never get the SS but I drive pretty aggressive. If i do it's because I want to and even then it's hard.

I tuned it out when i went E85, so no warning on screen ever.
However before tuned it only happened when turning off a red light... just it a little more gas pedal and thats it. To me the sign was more bothering than the fiscal mechanism. When ever it threw you to 4th, you just pop it out and place it in second.

It happens rarely to me and I am nannying the breakin too. When it does happen you just push the stick right like going to sixth and then back left and you can put it in second. I thought for sure I would eliminate it, but it’s unnecessary

The stock tune disables skip-shift above 19 mph.

If skip shift is a problem.... you're driving like a granny. Get on it!

The car is my daily driver, and depending on the time of day I hit all kinds of wierd semi-urban traffic. Slow to a turn and then merge aggressively, etc. But then find yourself behind a hypermiler.

I have learned instinctively to go 1 to 3, which doesn't lock, on my new 1ss 1le.

Before it was totalled my 1ss '17 early on caused me maybe two crap your pants situations when I wanted to go to second and couldn't.

If you learn the car it's fine. If you are a lifelong manual driver, and/or regularly drive pretty different manual transmissions it can be downright dangerous for someone new to the car. It's not how any manual is supposed to work. You can adjust over time.

Interestingly, Euro cars come without skip shift from the factory.

Agree on the 4th gen needing one. Had one from SLP and really helped my ‘98 SS but I don’t see the need for one on my ‘16 SS. It has come on a few times because I wasn’t going fast enough. I didn’t have one on my 2010 SS either.
