Oil consumption

Been driveing my 6 speed 2018 zl1 for about 5000 miles and have been noticing that it burns a lot of oil I have had an oil change but before the change I added about 6 quarts over the 5000 mile run.anyone else notice heavy oil consumption with there car ,the dealer said that is normal with a vehicle driven above 3000 rpm, I'm not beating the car but I do like to drive it at times . any response is helpful thanks

Well the dealer can say thats normal but I would be very upset with any engine that burned oil at the rate of 1000 miles or less per quart. If it was my vehicle I'd go to a different dealer and insist on a diagnostic check of the engine.
For reference my LT1 (not a boosted engine like yours I know) burns no oil between changes and I shift above 3K rpm a lot.

Good luck!

Here's a thread asking about oil usage for reference. It shouldn't use that much oil IMO.

It's going to depend on how you drive it. Higher rpm and engine braking will increase the amount. All my previous GM cars did the same. The LSA in my V would drink about twice as much as the Lt4 in my car. Anything over 1 quart in 1k miles seems like it might have a problem. Just my opinion though, I'm not a mechanic or engineer.

I did make a call to Chevy, I am waiting on a call back told them I was unhappy with the dealers response, I just never heard of that much oil consumption with a new sports car with no mods made to it thanks again

6qts over 5000 miles is a ton! Unless you track/drive the hell out of it I see no reason why it would be that high. I’ve put 7K miles on mine and not had to add oil in between changes.

When I put my car away with approximately 5k on it, lots of spirited city and suburban driving, plenty of stop and go driving, lots of high rpms, and a trip from NY to the tail of the dragon. I had only notice between a half to a whole quart difference when measured. A couple of hash Mark's on the oil stick below max when I checked that before changing. I would be very upset with that dealership if they told me 60% oil consumption was normal between fill ups.

As stated 6 quarts in 5000 miles is not the norm for this engine, even with a fair amount of spirited street driving.

Absolutely unacceptable oil consumption. I put 4000 miles on my car this year, with 2 track days, and it didn't burn a drop.

I'd continue hammering on GM about this consumption issue. At least you brought it to the dealership and opened a case so they didn't label it as neglect.

I had a dealer do that to me on a performance vehicle long ago and didn't have receipts to verify I changed oil regularly. Now I am beyond anal with keeping track of oil changes.

Good luck.

A friends car was doing the same thing. Dealer changed oil had him come back every 1000 miles after putting 2 quarts in over less than 3000 miles. They we authorized to rebuild the motor. Only thing I was surprised by is they rebuilt the motor vs putting a new short block in. Oh well car is fixed now.

run that thing harder...the rings need to be seated. I'm not kidding. "Putt around" LT4s seem to use more oil than expected. Sign up for a track day and give that car what it deserves.

Wow, I have changed my oil 3 times in the 6300 miles I have put on her: 600, 1500, then at 6000. Between 0 and 600, she burned no oil. Between 600 and 1500, I put half a quart in her. Between 1500 and 6000, she used a quart.

So, in 6300 miles, I have added 1.5 quarts of oil in between oil changes.

I am no expert mechanic; but if I had put in 6 additional quarts in that same time period, I would be VERY worried about my motor.
