TPW 1/21/19, Exhaust Question!
I have a TPW of 1/21/19 for my ZL1 1LE. I’ve already ordered MP4S for the street, will be ordering BC Forged wheels from a vendor on camaro6, and will be ordering an exhaust. I was debating between the AWE and Corsa, but for me I just like the sound of the Corsa more. The issue is the Corsa exhaust systems are extremely confusing. AWE has every listed out and easy to understand what is which. Does anyone know the difference between the extreme and extreme+? On the Corsa website the extreme is $2XX more so I’m assuming it comes with resonantors or something?
Thank You |

I know all of the differences.
So with Corsa you have two types of Axle Backs and each axle back has tip options. You also have ONE X Pipe option. Axle Backs: Sport - 14786 (Sport mufflers are a bit more) Xtreme - 14784 (Louder and a bit cheaper) X Pipe - 14788: (3", 2.75" neck in the back. Bolts to primary cats and deletes secondary cats - no check engine light, no errors, worth a few HP and adds some sound) Cat-backs: The Cat-backs are MERELY a COLLECTION of the above X Pipe and Axle backs bundled together. Sport Axle Back + X Pipe = "Xtreme" (Adding the X pipe to the sport makes it "xtreme") (You'll notice, this system has the same margin, a bit more expensive due to Sport mufflers) Xtreme Axle Back + X Pipe = "Xtreme+" (Adding the X pipe to xtreme adds the "+") There are no resonated or non resonated options. There's only 2 axle back options and 1 X pipe option. Combining the "quieter" Sport mufflers/axle back with the X pipe makes it Xtreme sound level. While combining the "louder" Xtreme mufflers/axle back with the X pipe makes it Xtreme+ sound level. It's actually very simple but the first bit of lingo can be confusing. With the ZL1 1LE (ZLE) you have to be careful with exhaust choice as 6th gear is shorter than in the regular ZL1 and the cruise I believe is around 2000-2500 RPM. If you get exhaust that has ANY tendency to drone, it will definitely annoy the hell out of you/your passenger(s) every time you're on the highway. If you do not care about drone, then the market is open. If you go AWE and you don't want drone, then you'll want to get the resonated touring setup. I am a Corsa advocate, but I know the AWE system is nice as well. I wouldn't hesitate to use either. With the Corsa cat-back setup, you're getting ZERO drone no matter the conditions, and the best cruising manners possible (just like stock). The sound is seriously music. I run a Xtreme+ cat-back and on WOT it is thunderous, downshifts snap and pop, burble on gentle acceleration. Quiet cruise, no drone, foot controlled sound. Hope this helps! |

By the way, the cat-back is one piece on the 6th gen Camaro. If you order just an Axle back or an X pipe that is not full length (I'm not sure if AWE offers this, but I know Borla does. Corsa does not), you will have to cut the factory exhaust. If you don't want to cut, make sure you get a full length cat-back like either the Corsa Xtreme or Xtreme+ or make sure you're getting a full length, secondary cat deleting, X Pipe from whoever you choose.
Also, just FYI, Juiced Motorsports was able to hook me up with the best pricing, beating out my wholesale Summit account which is rare. I would PM them on here (Juiced1) or call them directly and see if you can get setup. I'll attach a picture that may help those passing by on the exhaust setup of the 6th gen Camaro. |

Removing restriction, such as primary or secondary cats (or any exhaust restriction, such as Headers vs. Manifolds) will make the tone higher, usually raspier as well as louder. So yes, removing the secondary cats on this car does make the sound a bit higher and raspier no matter what X pipe or axle back/mufflers you install. The Corsa Double Helixx setup does help with that as the second cross over helps to smooth and deepen a touch. As I said, I run a X Pipe and Corsa Xtreme mufflers with no secondary cats and I would not call the sound high pitched or raspy in the slightest. Does it sound like a 60s muscle car? No. But it doesn't sound like a euro V8. The sound characteristics of an engine WILL NOT change much no matter what you do. The LT4 is characteristically blatty, and raspy/sharp sounding while also being pretty deep and aggressive. You're only going to be able to enhance/reduce/change etc. so much. |

Here is my zl1 1le with the Corsa Extreme+ setup (includes the CAT delete section). Sounds amazing, can say there is no drone. However, you can never accelerate past traffic without getting NOTICED!!!!

Here's a comparison video of the two systems you are considering.
