Afm delete and check engine light
Hello,
I have an Camaro 2SS 2017(automatic). I just got MBRP cat back exhaust and i have read online it will throw an check engine light if I install that exhaust. To eliminate that Range V8 afm delete is recommended. Will it void any warranty and will it drain any battery if i keep it plugged in? Thanks |

Sorry, I'm not familiar with that type of exhaust system. However, I do know about the Range
![]() The only thing the Range does is disable the AFM on demand. It will not void your warranty because it does not change the tune or leave any trace when it is unplugged. The new Range version is not supposed to drain the battery. To play it safe, you can buy an OBD2 extension plug that has an on-off-switch. Every time you leave the car, you can hit the off switch. |

It looks like the MBRP cat back exhaust doesn't include AFM valves. If you install it and remove the AFM actuators then yes, your car will set a CEL (with or without Range device). The CEL is caused by the disconnected wire harness and not what mode the engine is running. The AFM actuator can be unbolted from the OEM exhaust. Some A8 owners unbolt the actuator, leave it connected to the wire harness, and carefully attach it under the car to avoid the CEL. There are a few threads about that if you search through the Exhaust subforum.
Some owners don't care for the sound of their non-AFM exhaust when the car is running in V4 mode and choose to buy the Range device to keep the car in V8 mode. There are numerous threads about the Range device in the Camaro6 forum. The newer models don't seem to have CEL problems like the earlier models. Alternatively you can have AFM and the actuator tuned out but that will void your powertrain warranty. |

Range will not void your warranty, it leaves no trace once unplugged...I would buy a cable with a switch and turn off every time you turn off the car, especially if the car will sit for a few days or more.

I just got the Range AFM and found out that when OnStar does my monthly diagnostics check I got Action Suggested- We were unable to successfully complete a diagnostic test. This issue may be caused by an aftermarket device plugged into your vehicle's diagnostic port.

If you see what day of the month they try to run the diagnostics, you can unplug your Range that day.

I have not had this happen to mine. My monthly report does include diagnostic report and my Range unit stays plugged in. |

So to throw in my 2 cents, i got the MBRP race catback without NPP valves and i got no CEL from it. you'll be fine.
I only got a CEL when i installed headers

If you have a tuner like HPtuners you can tune it out & revert back to the stock tune if needed. Modifying the stock exhaust voids the warranty anyway.

I would have to say that it depends upon the manner of which you modify the exhaust as to whether or not it voids the warranty.
