Thoughts on OEM Eagle F1s? Need a new set
So my Eagle F1s are just about done and I need a new set. I've been browsing around other threads but I just wanted to know what your opinion is. I live in SC so I don't need winter tires and I don't want to spend 1,200 dollars for a new set unless I have to. I only use it as a daily with a heavy foot from time to time on weekends but no track days. Tire sizes are : F 245/40/R20 and R 275/35/R20

I am in Houston, and I don't have any issues with the F1s at all. Drive in the rain all the time. They are noisy though. I guess it depends on if you need or want run flats.

My Goodyear's lasted 12k. I bought a spare tire kit from Modern Spare. I bought non run flats. I spent $900 on a set of Coopers from America's tire. They feel different than the good years for sure. Next time I'm going to get the Michelin pilot sports.

Most will tell you to buy what they got -that's natural I guess. I'm in SC as well and went back with OEM F1's since we can run summer tires year round. I got a great deal on a set of take offs with only 900 miles on them. I'm fine with the GY RF's. GM spec'd them with GY to match the car - so that works for me.

Stock Goodyears are complete garbage. Get Michelin PS4S. There's a reason other OEMs are putting these on at the factory.

I had no problem with the F1s. I changed to an all-season when they wore out at 23k miles.

For instance the '18 Mustang GT PP1 gets Michelin PS4S tires in similar sizes to the Camaro SS, but doesn't put down better handling or braking #s (granted there are other factors in play). In Car and Driver's testing on their long-term 2016 Camaro SS, they put down these handling and braking #s: https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...rm-test-review Braking, 70-0 mph: 149 ft Roadholding, 300-ft-dia skidpad: 1.01 g How bad could the stock tires really be with those #s?

If you're constantly pulling 1.01G when you drive your Camaro, and you keep a Tag Heuer timing system on all the time, then maybe you want to keep the Goodyears and test your driving skills until you can match the instrumented tests.
If you want to experience improved metrics that are not included in those C&D tests like wet weather performance, comfort, noise, etc., then search through the forum here and check out other first hand accounts of the PS4S on the Camaro. After reading first hand accounts from users here, then driving my PS4S for 2 seasons (>20K miles), I've come to the conclusion that the PS4S is a better tire in every respect compared to the stock Goodyears.

You can't beat Michelin PS4S for street use when you factor in longevity, noise, ride and wet weather performance.
The stock Goodyears on my 1LE are awesome warm weather dry summer performance tires though, and will probably kick butt over the PS4S on track. Ideally I'd have both, PS4S for street and stock GY for track. |

I love my F1's on my SS, I run them year round here in NC. My car doesn't see rain/snow or extreme cold temps, but they are summer/high performance tires and I know this. I get great traction with them and they ride very well for a run flat. I have 10K on them now, I don't beat on them, but I drive very spirited and have plenty of tread life on them.

That said, I think you make a fair point about the level of performance delivered by the stock tires and how much better you can even use on the street. Track usage is a different matter. I bought some Falken FK510s in part because objective tests showed they had similar performance to the OEM tires and I couldn't justify addition cost for performance I can't use. |
