MRC and jacking up

Good morning everyone.

I read one post about it not being recommended if you have a Camaro equipped with the Magnetic Ride Control not to leave the car jacked up for a long time.

My '18SS is currently put away in my dry garage jacked up so that all four tires are off the ground, battery maintainer installed and a nice (colored match to car, satin indoor car cover installed). My car has the MRC.

Is it true that it is not recommended to leave the car in the air for a "long time" with the MRC installed? The Camaro will not be moved probably until April (ughh..that sucks).

What are the negative effects of this, if any?

I popped off the rear driver's tire yesterday and looked around. Only possible thing I could think of is that maybe the switch travel/position is maxed out.

I have always jacked up my past previous Camaros and Mustang that I owned over the winter, granted, this is the first vehicle I have had with MRC.

I did do a search, did not really find answers.

Thoughts? Factual-based evidence?

Have a good weekend everybody.

Stay dry out there (pouring here in central Maine)

Had mine on stands couple weekends ago to try and check for clunk, tighten, loctite the sway bar end-links. Of course now I know this isn't possible b/c at full droop the end links are fully bound up against their boots.

So I would not store my car on stands. I'd air the tires up to max psi and use flatstoppers or carpet/foam pads. YMMV.

MRC doesn't really have anything to do with it. Issue with storing these cars on stands is that it is keeping the rubber bushings in the suspension links loaded when it's up in the air (i.e. bushings are at their "neutral" position when the car is on the ground). Keeping them stored in this position will cause them to wear out faster.

I'd either do what Gunkk suggested or invest in a set of tires w/wheels you don't care about to let it sit on over the winter.

I just air the tires up to 40 psi and park it on pieces of plywood to keep them off the concrete. I'm not even sure that is necessary. Never had an issue in over 10 years.

Sounds good...thanks everyone. I will bring the car down off of the jacks then and inflate the tires.
I think I have some thick foam laying around the basement I can cut up and use under the tires.

You could take some 1/2" steel plates, drill holes to match the lugs, jack the car up, attach the plates instead of the tires, then rest whole car on those plates.

But, kinda overkill. Just leave it on the tires.

Your tires will not be permanently flat-spotted by sitting on the ground over the winter. As a precaution, you can inflate them above the normal pressure, particularly since you will lose 1 psi for every 10 deg F drop in temperature. I inflate mine to 40 psi. I have never bothered with any material under the tires, either. They just sit on the concrete floor with no damage. Most people do use wood or carpet scraps, though.

I'm actually thinking about making a set up for my car. Overkill, but I can make them tall so I can get underneath the car to tinker over the winter and not have to keep pulling it on and off jack stands.

Wow. That's a bit of work. If you do it, you might consider 90 degree bends on each vertical edge for added strength.

Eh, I have access to a plasma cutter and welder at work, not really too tough.

I wouldn't just use a plate of steel, I'd make a base for it and throw some gussets on there.

You people are crazy!

All this over flat spotting?
It doesn’t happen. I had a car sit for 18 months in the exact same spot. Fired it up and it drove fine....no flatspotting.
