1SS 1LE audio upgrade questions
I’ve searched but couldn’t find the answers to my questions. I am considering upgrading the audio system. Either just adding amp+sub or replace the speakers/tweeters along with amp too. Ive found out the 1SS 1LE does NOT have an amp and the speakers are just powered straight from the radio.
1) I’ve read tapping the rear side panel speakers for the sub is fine. No difference in sound between tapping to the front door speakers. Is this true? 2) if I replace all the speakers/tweeters and run an amp to it. Will I have problems with door chimes/turn signal sound and whatever else it produces through the speakers? This is my plan, cut the wires at the connector on the passenger side footwell area. Run the radio wire side to the aftermarket amp in the trunk then run new wires to the footwell and connect to the factory speaker-side wire. Will this work? And will this amplify the chimes/turn signal sounds? |

From what I have looked at only the front door speakers are full ranged. So if you were adding an amp that is they would be your inputs, and yes it would amplify chimes.
I am not sur if the bass or treble is cut off in the rear, but seems like people tap the fronts for subs just use a speaker level input. There is a company that makes a box we can just plug into our speaker outs and gives line outs for everything, and deals with the chim issue, problem is it is about $800. I would like to add at least a sub, the sound is very lacking, this would probably get me 90% of what I care about. |

I'd recommend taking the cash and spending it on a home system. If you get a really good home system a car system will seem less appealing.
I used to install auto stereo systems in my shop and currently design home speakers for my HiFi business. I haven't upgraded the stereo in my last few cars and now I just don't care that much. The LT1 sounds pretty good... ![]() Although, I do agree the stock sound system leaves a lot to be desired. I know the 1SS is supposed to be basic but it's not a cheap car. It would be nice if they could do a little more for the interior and sound system. And include blind spot and cross-traffic alerts to help make up for the huge c-pillar. :-/ Anyways, it would be easiest to get speaker-level signal but if you can get a wiring diagram of the stock unit you could possibly find existing line-level outs that aren't being used. |

I made a post about putting an amp and sub in mine. Went with 1 JL10w3 and 1 alpine 500watt amp. I got an amp kit from amazon and bought everything else used. Spent 125 on amp and sub, 25 on amp wiring kit, and 5 on a cheap line out converter. I'm plenty satisfied, but then I use pandora and android auto. I notice radio always sounds like ass so I never listen to radio.

I tied into the rear speakers have no chim issues at all and sub works great.
Amp I used uses high level input and signal sensing so literally just tap into the rear speaker and power the amp and im done. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showp...&postcount=193 |

What you want in the M650-GM. Expensive but also takes care of providing a true High-End sound, since it incorporates a dedicated powerful 32 Bit D/A converter 192kHz and a 128bit floating point DSP. https://navtv.com/products/NTV-KIT838/m650-gm.html |

No audiophile here either but something that may simplify the installation might be a powered sub. You get the enclosure, speaker and amp all in one package.
Also someone made a point about radio have bad quality. As fast as sound quality, here in Phoenix, some stations blow away Pandora. iTunes and I heart radio. Sorry, that last bit was off topic. Last edited by Aragorn; 11-01-2018 at 06:04 PM. Reason: Sp |

I really like the PAC brand seems like its all plug 'n play. But unsure if it will work with the 1LE because it requires BOSE just like the NAVTV brand. I might just go with the amp and sub and call it a day into all these researching I've been doing.

What they say is, that in certain tuners there is a compatibility issue and then they provide you a replacement tuner (when this is the case) |

So is there a tuner compatibility issues on the 1LE since it doesn't have any amp from factory? I'm trying to gather as much info as I can on here and the 6th gen FB group |
