Gas prices headed higher
Looks like crude is headed higher. Back to 5.00 a gallon! My second car is a Fiat 500e to commute. Drive my 1LE on nice days and weekends. You guys might consider picking one up. They are a blast to drive and accelerate like you would not believe. Best part very inexpensive.

I’m not sure buying an additional $25k car is going to offset any gas savings. If gas got to $5 a gallon it would take 35 years of driving it to start saving money that way.

![]() Even buying a $7000 used Civic to “save on gas” is wasting money. Unless you sell your current car for the additional difference in what you paid for it and the price you pay for your econobox, even if you get 60 mpg you’re spending more money than you’ll ever possibly save with better gas mileage. |

Using an SS as a daily driver even if your commute is only 35 miles one way will run you $138.00 a week in gas at 4.40 a gallon or $551.00 a month. Based on 30 gallons a week.
Those ECO cars are not gas rice burners and will give a 1LE a run for its money to 50 MPH. they are blast to drive. I know my 500E is, and the Chevy version the spark has 350 LBs instant torque off the line, LOL.

That's the beauty of it, it doesn't care where the electricity comes from, hydroelectric, gas turbine, thermo, nuclear, wind, etc. That's why it makes infinitely more sense than hydrogen, fuel cells or traditional ICE. It's still far more efficient to make electricity at the power station and beam it to the car than an ICE. Many cities use gas-turbines for power because it's very scalable and efficiency has passed 65%. Thinking about all the gas that is used to transport gas, tanker trucks, making tanks in the ground, gas stations, etc., it makes a lot more sense in the long run. People are going to buy new cars, these will be the future as battery technology continues to improve. Sure, the electricity is not free, but EVs make better use of finite resources.

When you charge an ev w/fossil fuel you're not doing much better vs ICE in terms of efficiency, although compared to an SS maybe you are. Compared to a Honda Fit, probably not. While NG turbines have surpassed ~65% the entire process is not that that efficient, with many fuels it's a wash vs burning gas in an ICE. However, you also need to account for the fact an ev takes a lot more to manufacture and recycle, and as far as manufacturing, the mining of rare earth and cobalt is not a nice process. There are human costs and environmental costs associated with mining and manufacturing with these materials. EVs are certainly the future but right this second they don't quite live up to their promise, imo. |
