Tire height increase from stock

I got the stock Goodyears with stock wheels.
245/40/20 fronts.
275/35/20 rears.

Looking to change to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S (as its got the most votes here) but really considering getting a taller set for comfort and appeal.

I'd like to go with...
245/45/20 for the fronts
275/40/20 for the rears.

That's only a +5 increase for the height. There's enough room in the fender to clear it and speedo will only be off by a small fraction.

I had a Lexus SC430 and wanted to do the same +5 increase and EVERYONE said that's not going to work. I went ahead and got the taller tires anyway and drove it with no issues for years. So I don't see what the problem with the camaro would be.

Anyone here tried this upgrade?

Just keep in mind your "only +5 increase" could be adding over an inch of diameter to the tire. I would suspect it will rub, at least in the rear, on the fender liners.

I had the same idea. It would fill out the fenders really nice and I wouldn't have to lower the car. Have you checked if this would effect the cars computer? What tires were you thinking of buying?

I think the best way is to get a used taller tire off of craigslist, 1 for the rear and 1 for the front. Put it on and see if it rubs

2ssAlex, I just had new tires put on my SS last week and I went with 285/35 ZRs in the rear and stock size in the front. I think 275/40s might not work but then again they might fit. I like the 285/35s as they fill out the wheel well a little better than the 275s. I went with Continental Extreme Contact Sports Plus and really like them and they sure ride a lot better than the runflats. I was going with the Michelin’s Pilot SS and found out they don’t make them anymore and we’re updated with the 4S. The problem with the front is the MRC and limited room to go up to a 245/45 which might rub on the spring perch. You can check different tire sizes on TireSize.com to compare to the stock sizes. Good luck!

I bought some old winter tires and steel wheels from a 2010 Camaro (245/50 r18) for my 2016 1LT and they fit fine (if not a little Mad Max looking). Stock size was 245/45 r18, and I have had no issues with rubbing.

Those shouldn't rub, I wouldn't think that they would. To add to the conversation is it the front, or rear (taller or shorter) that affects the speedo calibration...inquiring minds want to know.

drive tires determine speedo

Found something interesting on the weekend. I have been toying with getting taller tires to fill the wheel well gap so I don't have to lower the car. Stopped by my dealership on Saturday and browsed the lot and found a Gen 6 with taller tires. Turns out it was a brand new 2LT and they had swapped wheels from a 2SS and installed new Pirelli P Zero tires. Fronts were 245/45 x 20 and the rears were 275/40 x 20. Bingo!! those are the exact sizes I was looking for and the GM said all it would do is change the speedo and it would not effect anything else on the car. So I figure if they did that to a new car I could do it on mine.

Can the speedo be adjusted?

Sorry no pics but I will see if I can take some the next time I am at the dealership. Speedo can only be done with an aftermarket tune which then voids the warranty. Contrary to what I was told the GM garage can only adjust the speedo to what ever size of tires that the Camaro comes with.

That's kind of a bummer, considering that Jeep dealers can adjust Wrangler speedos for the various big tires people put on them.

From experience the 275 40 and 245 45 rub in the rear of the front fender liner when turning in a parking lot. But not in road driving. It will wear a hole through the liner quickly and there is no way to clearance the area. I thickened up the area with a substantial amount of jb weld. This allowed me to run my old winter wheels but not the best idea...
