Borla S-Type Axleback Exhaust (Non-NPP) Review & Sound Clips!

Happy Labor Day Weekend!

This review has been long overdue but I'm glad I finally sat down and it did properly. I also think I may be the first one to actually do a review for this exhaust on the non-npp, so I hope this can be informative for some people currently looking around. It is also important to note that this car is otherwise 100% bone stock.

For everyone out there that has the non-npp exhaust on the 6th gen SS, and is looking to upgrade, you can really look no further. The Borla S-type axleback is so beyond amazing that I am actually quite frankly shocked.

Pros/cons for your consideration:

Pros:
- Sound quality and tone is phenomenal

- Fit and finish of exhaust with carbon tips and Borla logo is spectacular

- It is dead quiet at any cruising speed

- Zero drone across all gears and rpm band

- When you get on the gas, the noise is intoxicating

CONS:
- Loud startup. Not loud enough where car alarms go off or anything, but noticeably more loud than stock non-npp

- end list of cons.

Now for the pics and sound clips:

Video #1 (Outside sound clip)

Video #2 (Inside sound clip)

I hope this helps anyone out there looking to upgrade their axleback non-npp exhaust. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask

Very nice!

I think I'm going with the s type also for my non npp car. Is your car stock exhaust manis and cats?

I like those tips too, just not really crazy about how they poke out.

Yes. The car is completely stock. I will add that to the review

They poke out a little but I think it looks good especially since its a carbon finish and not chrome or too flashy (in my opinion)

I think Flowmaster 44s or Legato Sounds better and at a cheaper price.

I've heard that Flowmaster 44s drone quite a bit. Which would be a no-go for me. Never heard of Legato.

Big thanks to Rhox for the great review! Very helpful.

In regards to the Flowmaster, I’ve also heard they drone. Probably a deal breaker. Hard to see any drawbacks to the Borla.

Love it

Great review. I am also looking for a bit more out of my stock SS but not overkill. Sounds from your description this may be the way to go.
Looks good too. I'm not getting the videos though. Is it me or did they fall off?

Is there a Borla with stainless tips?

Yep, the tips protrude more than stock, but, because of the bends in the exhaust pipe leading into the mufflers and clearance to the rear sway bar, especially on the passenger side, it is difficult to recess the tips much farther.

I played with the adjustment of my s-type axle-backs on and off for a couple weeks and ended up with pretty much the same protrusion as the OP. I have the dual tips.

As mentioned in the last post - yes you can get the S-Type with stainless tips.

Also the videos still work for me so I'm not sure why they wouldn't be loading on your end. If anyone else has this issue let me know and I'll try to re-post them or something
