Question about drop in filter

I’m sure this topics been covered numerous times already so my apologies in advance.. I was wondering if anyone has done just a k&n, aem, or any other brand drop in filter and had any noticeable sound or performance difference. I’ll eventualy do full cai. But until my wife cools down about how much I spent on car I’d like to keep my parts prices down

I installed a K&N filter before moving to a GM Performance CAI and did not feel or hear a difference with the K&N.

The stock airbox is sized for the LT4. Don’t waste your money.

I installed a K&N. Went back to OEM, which I think feels ever so slightly more linear in throttle response.

I know you're holding off to make the wifey happy, but I'd just use the stock filter until you are ready to drop $$$ on a complete CIA.

I'd suggest Rotofab's CIA when you're ready to do it.

Hope this helps!

After talking to a shop & long time known tuner unless you plan on getting inside the motor to do cam & heads. OEM airbox will more then enough so I’m not spending the cash on a CAI

Hopefully not going too far off topic, but how is a so called "cold air intake" providing air that's any cooler than the OEM box? They all draw air from the same place at the front of the car. Its not like the old days when someone would just stick a filter right on the throttle body where it would actually be drawing hot air from the engine bay.
