ZL1 Build Suggestions

I am currently working on my 2017 Zl1 build and was in need of some advice. I have purchased and started installing the following items: Roto-Fab Cold Air Intake, Kooks 2” by 3” Long Tub Headers and Off Road Connection Pipes, Kooks muffler delete Axle Back with Black Quad Tips, Vengeance Racing CNC Gen V Cylinder Heads, Vengeance Racing Cam Kit with Stage 3 Cam and Ligenfelter Overdrive Balancer Pulley 18%. Car will be ran off of pump gas. So my question is how much Rwhp can I expect to have with the above mods and I would like to hear any other build suggestions such as meth injected, whipple 2.9 supercharger or anything else and why. Thanks

Though I have no experience with the mods you have listed I can guess about 750 WHP should be about were you would be at. May consider flex fuel sensor for E85/93 mix. Seems to help a lot. Looks like a good build. Excited to see results and follow.

I'd like to hear your exhaust setup. It's gotta be hellacious. I have the Kooks axleback but chose to go with their muffler instead of the delete.

Just completed this setup on my car with the same stage III cam, kooks 2 inch longtubes , borla atak, whipple 2.9 on 8psi and came just a little shy of 750rwhp on pump gas in 110 degree weather. I can imagine it could easily exceed that during winter. So im sure on your setup you will be able to make 750+ no problem.

Sounds like your wanting some pretty big hp/torque. I suggest you run the Magnuson 2300 Heartbeat. Are you going to Road race it, drag race or just a street car. I run a stock Lt1 and I'm making over 700 rwhp and have run 10.03@138 which I hope to break into the 9's tonight if conditions are right. I can change pulleys and run 93 octane and get 23 mpg on the hwy if I choose to do that. With the current mods plus the Maggie you could make 625 plus rwhp, I do run Meth/water injection and VP 109 for the track. However you can run 93 on the street with the Meth/water injection for more cooling and additional fueling.

I've been talking to 3 well known shops all have confirmed the cam swap other than chop and 50 hp seems like a waste unless your just after the chop or have 11k extra for a fuel system.

The reason, the fuel cam lobe & auxiliary lift pump just aren't enough to fuel on all e85 much past 700.. add meth and ya you can get there easy. Some people mix 93 and e85, but then you need to keep up with your mixing ratio and if you get to a area and only has 93 just don't beat on it.

I really don't like the idea of depending on meth for safety reasons for all the 100s of successful people there is 1 or 2 not so lucky stories I hear.

The only way to go all e85 no meth is to do the cam and lift pump then buy the larger high pressure pump and hiflow Lt4 injectors from lingenfelter or FIC or Kaytech's belt driven injector pump, aux pump, and hiflow injectors all of which are 9k to 10k systems not counting labor. then your talking banging out 800 plus number on all e85.. then you can also start thinking about another blower..

If your going to run meth.. its probably more cost effective to leave the cam in, just do a aux pump and get the nitrous express meth lid for the LT4. I doubt the HP numbers would be much different. than doing a cam and mixing e85 for like e60 or 66..

This Lt1 /4 has shops promising numbers only to find out you need meth to get there..

how it usually goes down is like this.. You want to make more power you need to do a cam specifically for the fuel lobe...about 4300.00 plus or minus.. then well we have the heads off we should port them.. 3500.00 (hopefully get some back for core charge) Do you want to do the blower porting since its off another 1200.. oh and your gonna need a larger TB 600.00 So now you got this badass setup and its making close to 700 on 93 they then say man its getting some high IATs we should do a Flex sensor 600 to so you can run e85.. 1st hit whoa man the pressure is dropping way off we are still at 700 its gonna need meth to get past this number.. 1200 for intake setup with 1 or 2 nozzles 2300 for a LT4 lid.. We did man 800 rwhp I want to say your about a e66.. blah blah.. your like that's it ya these DI motors and the small blower don't do much.. Now ya need a whipple 5500.00 it probably pop out 70 hp because it moves more air at a lower temp.. now the need for the 10k fuel system comes into play!

I'm pretty much ok with headers, lower pulley, TB and tune I spent less than 2200 including the tune.. I might get the balls to do the lt4 meth lid.. but until the fuel systems come down forget it..

I think the zl1 is so amazing and frustrating. Seems that you can make 100 more hp with about 3k OT less but after that the price for power is dramatic. I agree with the previous post that it’s just too expensive to go beyond 700hp. I’m a year away from doing any major mods to get even close to that. Once I get bored of that kind of power I’ll most likely by the next best car. Maybe the gen 7 ZL1. Lol

Kaizenspeed built a ZL1 with Whipple, Cam, headers, dsm aux pump, race gas. 820rwhp. Just starting to get it dialed in at the track, it has put down 9.87 in DA of around 4,500. They are taking it to a sea level track in a month or so should be down in the mid nines.
