New ZL1 owner

Hi all,

Just picked up my new ZL1 on Tuesday. Traded in my 15' SRT M6 Challenger. Previously I owned a 13' Corvette GS. My dad has owned Corvettes all his life and owns a 16 Z51 now at 76yrs old. Needless to say we are both impressed with the ZL1. No manuals were available, and I was going to wait and order a 19. After watching some videos, seeing the 19's tail lights, and reading up I went from "no way" on the A10 to wanting to have it.

Really liking what ive experienced so and am happy to be back with GM

Ive got a few questions that I'm hoping someone can help me out with:

Can I use Dexos2 0W-40 all the time or is that only for the track sessions? I believe 5w 30 is on the engine oil cap. I assume 5W 30 is fine for track days that don't push the car to extremes for hrs on end and that is the recommended oil otherwise.

PTM Race Mode vs Just holding the car with squiggly lines button for 5 seconds and having both lights come on? Is it the same thing? Seems like it to me but there is no stated differences in the manual I can find.

Otherwise Comp Driving Mode yields full power. That's pressing the button 2x in sport or track. What if I'm in lets say Touring and floor it. Will the car not accelerate to its full potential?

I read on the forums but didn't see in the manual lugs to be torqued to 140 PSI?

Is there a dipstick for the A10 Trans fluid to check the level? Not sure I saw one?

Also there is an open tube to the left of the fuse panel under the hood? Cant find what that is?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Pat

Must be in track mode. Push the TC button twice & PTM menu will come up on the DIC. There is a new oil recommended for our cars per a bulletin issued by GM. See below for the bulletin. 140 pounds? Damn. I am @ 105. Hopefully someone else can chime in On the lug torque. I Purchased the last ZL1 Addons titanium Lugnuts set that was available. The torque will be important as I am installing them tomorrow..

Lug torque is in fact 140ft/lbs. Seems like a lot, but the nut surface area is huge and they want them on there tight!

You can use the 0-40 all of the time, but I think the general consensus on the ZL1 side (vs the vette folks) it that the info is still a little vague, and many still do the 5-30 and 15-50 street/track swap (for now). The 5-30 is actually the right stuff for the street (as per the cap).

Take a look at the performance supplement that came with the manual, it has great information.

CONGRATULATIONS on an awesome car!

Wow, manual pickings are really slim in your area.

According to Autotrader.com, there are only 5 manual ZL1 (new 2018) within a 200 mile radius of Jacksonville. 2 white and 1 black ZL1. 1 yellow and 1 blue ZL1 1LE.

The closest one is 182 miles from you.

Thanks for the info guys and all the replies!

Ill ask the dealer about the 0 40. Getting my 500 mile oil change tomorrow morning.

I just wanted to check regarding the lug torque.

I really loved my Challenger and it was a great car. This car is a different animal all together and am really happy so far. I drove it to work this morning and its starting to "loosen up" a bit. I can tell I'm going to enjoy it.

Liking the A10 but still moving my left foot a lot and reaching for the parking brake release lever on the left. LOL

Oh that tube in the engine bay on the left next to the fuse box. Can you guys confirm what that is? I didn't see it on the engine bay diagram.

Thanks again,
Pat

EDIT: I think the tube on the left side of the engine bay I'm referring to is for the head light adjustment!

no dipstick on the A10 that can be accessed easily. These transmissions have a special fill procedure that has to be at the correct trans temp range and using the small plug on the transmission pan while the engine is running in park. There is a YouTube about it from Weber Auto...https://youtu.be/dPrP4NQZg6w

A10 takes a new fluid called ULV and trust me the fluid level is a sensitive matter.

Thanks for the video and cap info.

Sounds like something else for the dealer to completely screw up.

I had my 500 mile oil change this Saturday and when they lifted the car they caught the rockers with the lift on the rear lift points..thank god they are flexible plastic. Some of these guys are so clueless.

Funny part is I specifically asked the service adviser that they know how to lift the car and where the lift points were (having owned Corvettes in the past.)

They used 5W 30 and were not aware of the change.

If anyone knows a good dealer in Northern Florida or South Georgia please pass it on. Im in Jacksonville.

I cleaned it up pretty good this weekend. Looks good. It does have some water spots on the black vynil from sitting out on the dealer lot but its tough to see it unless your looking.

Really happy so far!!

Thanks and Congrats! No manuals around here to be found. Wanted one, and wasnt sure about the A10 but so far so good. Im actually really impressed and not regretting the decision at all.

Its a long way from the 2spd power glide in my 66 Olds Cutlass (my first car.) LOL

believe it or not I bought mine at Beck in Palatka and Chris the service manager takes awesome care of me and the car I only have them work on it and I have the new oil and yes it does make a difference. I call them checking on things I read about and he confirms it thru GM for me.... good honest folks.

Very nice color & stripe combo. Rare combo and I have yet to see a stripe ZL1 on the road.
