What Rim and Tire for Drag use only on '18 ZL1?
Guys
Had this under the ZL1 section, but suggested to move here... Have done look-ups for drag wheel/tire here. See the Weld 17X10, 7.2 Back Space is a recommendation for drag wheel. Is offset 44mm? This is for Drag racing only. I have an '18 ZL1. Again, looking for rear only rim/tire combo for the occasional drag event. I have a 1/4 mile track not far so would do a few times a year. Also, just got back from 1/2 mile drag so maybe use for this as well. Only issue i was reading is that some of you guys say a drag tire gets squirrely at triple digit speed. Since I get 160 in 1/2 maybe not for this application?...stay with my stock wheel/tires for that? So, I'm trying to decide get another set of 20" rims for the back and put on a drag radial, or get 17's and drag radial on that. Guessing i'll have more options going the 17" route. Just want to make sure it clears everything... Thanks |

I'm going to go with a 17" wheel and tire for the strip. I haven't found the setup I want yet, so I can't really help ya. A few that had the squirrelly feeling reported that lowering air pressure helped. I don't remember what they started with, but apparently it was too high.

Okay so with DRs/drag pack are you able to get below 1.7 all the time, or do the DRs just make 1.7s more consistent?

I havent been able to figure out the front runners yet so I will be running the stock GY's up front for this race.

I will go with Toyo R888Rs on 19" wheels and run therm all the time. Even with DRs ZL1s do not 60' very well, even the A10. GM bog for sure. A 1.7 like that is my best too but mostly 1.8s on the GYs.

Fraxum, I am willing to bet if you borrow my 275/45r17s you’ll cut a sub 1.7 on your first pass

GPI is working with aerospace currently on a rear solution should be ready in a month or two. The Carlyle kit is great but I haven’t seen any options that offer the weight loss benefits I’m looking for. Running a 15 is great but I’d like to get some weight loss as well aside from the smaller rim. Last I read the Carlyle kit was only worth like 7 lbs. the front kit I just did was worth 47. I woukd think a proper rear kit be worth about 30-35

My front kit seems to be doing very well so far. And stock brakes are easily swapped back.
It’s not for everyone but I like having the ability to run 15s and the weight loss incurred. Doing both front and rear brakes is nearly 100 lbs a lot of it rotating and over that with lighter 15 wheels. For me it’s an appealing mod |

Aerospace kit from GPI. Rear kit is coming soon
12 inch (11.75 iirc) 2 piece front rotors and dual piston billet calipers. With the billet 15s I’ll be running over my race stars I’ll be saving about 60 lbs off the front with a lot of it rotating mass. With a rear kit and light 15s will be over 100 lbs. https://gwatneyperformance.com/produ...ont-brake-kit/ They advertise about 40 lb drop. Snowblind weighed the components personally and found it was 47 lbs lighter |
