Chevrolet Remote Access vs Onstar
So I am still in the trial period with the exception of the wifi plan (let that expire).
In order to have both (Remote Access & OnStar) is $349.90 per year. Appears to be quite a bit of redundancy. Both offer navigation, which honestly, who is relying on this when we have up to the minute maps on our phones. Roadside assistance (OnStar), let me tell you, tried to use this with my Hummer and it was a nightmare. Called them and my insurance company's RA, and the insurance company was there in 15 minutes. OnStar's needed over an hour. So, Stolen Vehicle Assistance is unique to OnStar as is Automatic Crash Response, etc. OnStar alone is $249.90 Chevy RA is $149.90 Jeez, $350 per year. How many of you have bought this and are there any deals on this?

As far as I know, you won’t need a remote access subscription for the first 5 years of ownership, it’s included.

you don't need that extra stuff
Onstar "Basic" is included w/ new car for 60 months. Which IIRC gives you key fob on the phone app, monthly maintenance reports, "where's my car parked," and the big-brother-insurance-safe-driver-thing if you enable it.

I’m not sure if I misunderstood this the other day, cause I wasn’t really paying attention, but later I could’ve sworn the Onstar rep said I wouldn’t have remote car start after my 1 month free trail, tho last time it was 5 years. Is this true on new Purchases? I’ve yet to call and confirm/ and or bitch.

I bought certified used and activated the remaining 5 years free OnStar phone app. My wife has a 2011 Chevy Cruze and they told me if we put both cars on the same account, her Cruze gets the same OnStar services as my Camaro for free also. You need to activate the service by hitting the OnStar button in the car, you cannot set it up online.

Purchased new in May, lost remote app after trial month. Only get monthly diagnostic email, driving report and service scheduler. For Remote Commands it says "Upgrade Now".

Hey Guys!
Chevy salesman here - GM has changed the trial to one month now - the 5 year "On-Star Basics" trial still includes the app, but Key Fob Controls are a subscription-required service after that first month. In other words, you'll still get the app for 5 years, but if you want to use the key fob on that app from your phone, it'll require a subscription now after 30 days. Allow me to preface the inevitable angry responses by saying, please don't shoot the messenger. We know the customers enjoyed this feature, and as salespeople, are frustrated by this change as well! |

I just purchased my Camaro, and this feature will no longer exist after the trial as discussed. I would NEVER pay >$10 a month for this feature. GM realized it's the only OnStar feature anybody actually uses, so why not charge? After my trial is over, I plan on disconnecting the entire OnStar computer. It's an absolute junk product in terms of privacy, safety, and usefulness.
