Boral x pipe with mid pipes 60610

maybe a stupid question, but i have the Atak axle back going in on thursday. What will the xpipe and mid pipes do? Will it affect the sound?

The 60610 retains both catalytic converters and the AFM valves so the volume should not be significantly effected. However, it does do away with the infamous crushed pipe section (towards the back) and some other smashed sections that probably keeps the stock pipe a little more civilized.

Combined with the Atak axle backs it would probably make the pipes sound a little more "throaty" or deep without being excessive.

This is just speculation on my part, I've got the 60606 with the stock NPP and it's definitely louder than stock. Enjoy your Ataks!

Why not go with the Borla 60609? They retain the AFM valve and eliminate the secondary cats. You will free up the exhaust and get a little more crackle and pop from the exhaust. They are basically the 60606 system for the automatic tranny cars. The axle back system does not really do anything other than make the car louder.

The 60609

Says it’s only for racing etc. not sure if I would pass inspection in RI with that one.

Does your State require the secondary cats? Does your State do any emissions testing on new vehicles? If yes, do they do a mechanical and a visual inspection on the exhaust to see if it meets State regulations?

If your answer is "No" to the above questions. You would be fine with removing the secondary cats. Remember our cars come from the factory with 4 cats. 2 on each side. They are the primary and secondary cats. The Camaro runs perfectly fine without the secondary cats. The Borla system when installed correctly will not cause any codes or CE lights.

Good questions. I'll have to find out. I know RI is a CARB state if that means anything.

"Carb" state means everything Mig. Stick with the axleback alone. It will be all you need and you won't sweat every time inspection rolls around.

Also, IMHO, most folks would find the 2nd cat delete combined with Ataks would be too much- really, I find myself holding back on the throttle with the 60606 (no 2nd cats) and stock NPP (in Track mode of course) in order not to attract too much attention!

Start there, you can always take more sound reduction away but it's a pain to quiet things back down if you go too far.

Good news....got the cat back Atak put in today and it sounds awesome!!! Bad news....I was so excited when I pulled into the garage, I went a little to far and hit the front factory splitter and put a crack in it. Time to upgrade!!

CARB is California Air Resource Board, which means don't mess with the cats. After the cats, you're ok. Long tube headers aren't legal, but short tube headers are.
In CA, I think it's after 7 years, we have to take the vehicle in for a smog check. They do a visual inspection to make sure everything that's required is still attached. Then they put a sniffer up the exhaust and in some cases they put the vehicle on rollers.
