mixing oils???

About 3 months ago I had bought Valvoline MST (Dexos2) 5W30 oil. (per recommended in GM owners manual) for the up and coming track day at CF8. well I had bought 10, stored it away until this weekend when I had planned on changing the oil. Fast FWD to yesterday. I did the oil change and apparently I'm missing a qt. of oil. weird. I know I bought 10, so I had 2 qts of Mobil 1 5w30 (dexos1) that I had. Barly touching the dipstick, I had no choice but to use it. would it be ok to use on the track day coming up, then I had planned on changing it again in a few weeks after the event. Thoughts? ohh, and it required about 10.5 qts of oil and still wasn't completely full, so I just left it half way in the thatch of the dipstick.

Ideally, I would have liked to have purchased the Mobil ESP that is now recommended that seems to be super hard to find. but at the time, it wasn't on the table, so I had to pick 2nd best.

Your motor will never know if it is mixed oil. You will be fine.

I did my first oil changed at 500 miles. After put 9.8 qts and my dip stick was showing low side. I went a head wait a little bit and after drove around. My dip stick reading differently when it was hot and cold. But i just added rest and made 10 qts. Dipstick shows still safe side. But yeah, it was definitely weird... it got me thinking “do i need more oil”. Lol

I do like to check oil in morning after sitting for over night.. Start up when temp gauge goes middle then shut off check 2~3 times.

You mean 5w40 MST or 5w30 MST?

I do not think that is the recommended track oil then. So at this point you should be changing it out anyway for the track event.

ok, so if it were 5w40, and then mixing it with 1.5qts of mobil 1 5w30? then what? I'll have to go home and check which one I used.

I will more worry about 10.5 qts filled than mixed oil lol.
