Has any one installed Borla Type S with headers?

I am looking for a new exhaust that has NPP was thinking Borla all the way tell I talked to a tech there. I explained to him my mods and he basically told me their system would not work because I have increased air flow. I assume its because they have not tested it on a moded ZL1 that he has to say that. My mods are pretty basic. Roto Fab, Ported throttle body, 9.10 lower pulley, Kooks 2" headers and some meth. 673 to the tires. If someone has installed the Borla Type S can chime in on this would be great!

Thanks Travis

I just did the same mods except METH and was considering the Borla. The Borla tech told me would work fine. I ended up going CORSA Sport. CORSA tech said would be fine with the extra flow and ponies. Getting it done on Friday. I just don't like the stock muffler sound...

It should be fine, I think there is one guy with a vert running the S-Type but I think he is on stock headers.

I'm on Kooks headers into Kooks 3" midpipe into stock NPP and I think it sounds amazing.

I like the way the Corsa sounds but want to retain the NPP.

That's was close to the set up I had tell two weeks ago. Kooks 3" no cats into stock exhaust. It was to raspy for me and to loud to race at my local track. I got a good deal on the Kooks 3" cat back and that's what's on it now. Sounds good, really deep but without NPP its a little much for the wife when we are just cruising around (Happy wife, happy life!). Had the Attak on my Vette and liked it but it had way less power so I figured the S type might be better for this car.

I have the S-type full cat back, stock headers for now. Upgrading to 2.3" griptech upper with kooks 1 7/8 and green CAT soon.

Have zero idea why the Borla rep would say it wouldn't work with your application

Me neither, does not push any more air under normal driving so its not like it will drone, Maybe the California DEQ has his line tapped and when I said I didn't have cats he panicked!

Kooks 1 7/8" Headers, No cats straight into a Borla 3" system, S-type with NPP valves. 792whp on E55, with absolutely no problems.

The system is a little loud when the valves are closed, and ear splitting, hear it in the next town LOUD when they are open and the peddle is on the floor!

First off nice build!!!
Is there any drone?
Did you ever have the headers into the stock suitcase? That's what mine is now and its stupid loud at full throttle. Maybe there is no way to tame the beast.

TDS - I'm in same boat and agree headers, etc to the stock suitcase is loud as hell. I also think it sounds crappy when the baffles closed. I'm trying the Corsa w/o NPP. Will see if WOT sound is different with this setup...

As most of the guys here are saying...just deal with it...

I will be interested on what you think about the Corsa once it is installed tomorrow.

My personality does not lend well to the whole "just deal with it" attitude.
Might take a few tries but I will find something that fits the bill.

Agree with you 100%...it is taking me a few tries, but something will fit the bill.

In a separate thread, one of the guys sent a great pic of a cutaway of the stock muffler. The outer NPP-baffled pipes are connected directly to the main exhaust from headers. Now it is perforated for a short distance, so you'd get some diffusing, but also got to be getting some "straight through" as well. That was my driver to go Corsa. Will see what (IF ANY) reduction in WOT sound there is. Even if there is none, should sound better!

Will know shortly

I'd bet all the money I have there'll be no reduction in sound with that Corsa. Putting Corsa on mine which is otherwise stock made it a screaming monster at WOT and cold start. Corsa + headers is always screaming loud on these cars and it sounds great.

THANK YOU TDS!!!

There is ZERO drone. I could drive across the country and put up with the exhaust. I went straight from factory exhaust to the Borla setup and headers. BUT, if I had it to do again, I might have kept the suitcase in hopes of being a little quieter.
