Trade In
So a Chevy dealer is offering me a carbon 65 coupe at almost 17% off and offering me 59 for my ZL1 Hyper Blue convertible with 2300 miles on it. Sticker on the car was 71500. Plus I spelled the front end for an additional $3500. Any thoughts whether this is a good deal. Thanks

carbon 65 is an appearance package. the vette trim would be the most important part. anything short of a z06 would be a downgrade IMO. performance wise i don't think your going to do any better for an all rounder for your money than the zl1.

I mean, is it a C65 GS 3LT or a C65 Z06 3LZ? That's kinda important to know. Hard pass on the GS. I would take a standard 2LZ or 3LZ Z06 over a ZL1. I'm not sure if I'd pay anything extra for the C65 stuff. It just doesn't appeal to me at all. At 17% off tho I think I'd at least consider it. But that also depends on what it actually comes out to. Which...I gotta say for someone asking advice you sure left out a lot of critical details. Not being a jerk but come on. Anyway. No for a GS. Yes for a Z06. The price they're offering for your trade in is on the high side of what I've seen them offer.

The Carbon 65 Package is absolutely awesome in my opinion. So much carbon and none of it is tacky, it's very exotic looking. I also love the Ceramic Matrix Gray. I would remove the decals though.
I would ABSOLUTELY do it if it was a Z06. No for a GS or Stingray though. The GS is a helluva car, no questions asked it's really good on a track and it's a Vette so it's lighter, nimbler and looks a little more exotic/expensive than the Camaro. The Z06 is a nasty fast car, it absolutely rips with just an intake and X pipe. And it handles like the GS so it's the best of both IMO. 59,000 isn't bad for a trade in actually. I'm surprised they'd offer that much considering you can get a lower specced one brand new for low 60s even high 50s (Or so claimed). Their asking price is likely going to be 62-63k. All in all, if you want a Vette and it's a Z06 then go for it. The GS is kind of a 1:1 trade, not really an advantage except it being a Vette if you value that more than a Camaro. |

That's a great trade-in value. I'd be lucky to get 52K on my 69K MSRP car with 6K miles.
Is this the Z06 @ Quality? I'd have a hard time spending 98K or whatever on a Z06 . . . regardless of it being a C65/3LZ. A "regular" one can be had in the 80s, so it depends on whether you really want to spend another $15K on a C65 one. If so, go for it. |

The higher trade-in could be due to the fact that it's a convertible which costs more initially VS a coupe... Also doesn't state if its an A10, but my convertible stickered at $72,625 (just over $1k more) with A10 and other options. I have just over 2600 miles and I was offered $60k toward trade in last week on a new 2017 3LZ Z06 coupe that the dealer wanted to move. Because it has been sitting on the showroom floor for so long, they were willing to sell that one to me for $79,800. MSRP on the Z06 was just over $100k, so about 20% discount. The car only has 5 miles on it, been indoors the whole time. Tempting, but my wife is very tired of me buying & trading every year, so she said no regardless of how good the deal is...man, may be time for a new wife & new car, lol!

Sorry guys, it is a Grand Sport Carbon not a Z06 carbon. Also it has been sitting on the dealers floor roughly a year already. Doesn't seem that the Carbon package whether Z06 or GS has really been moving. My ZL1 is a 6 speed not the A10.

The CF package does not make it go faster. It matters not unless money spent to make it faster.

You've already taken a bath on depreciation. If I was in your situation, I'd enjoy your car and wait for the C8.

I know the deals are out there on the C7's. There is like 150 day supply sitting out there on the lots. Seems like the trade value is good though on your deal.

The Grand Sport is not worth it. I know some who turned down a GS for a ZL1. So I would not go the opposite direction if I were you. And that CF Z06 looks nice. But end of the day it'll probably just go for what a standard 3LZ Z06 goes for on the (future possible) resale/trade-in side of things. But I wouldn't bash you for getting that Z06. Definite no on the GS tho.

Keep your car. Your car is faster. Once you get smoked in the GS you’ll wonder why did I do this deal. Get faster machinery not slower.

The ZL1 with a Supercharged + Forged engine is a much better modder car. If you wanted more than 750 RWHP in a GS you'd be looking at pistons/rods/crank whereas the LT4 can handle 1000-1100 HP without breaking too big of a sweat. If you're going for an all in build, then the Vette takes the lead anyway. The lighter weight advantage does make a noticeable difference when you really get cooking. |
