MBRP axle back vs Hooker axle back vs dumps
I finally got around to changing out the Hooker Blackheart axle back with mufflers to MBRP axle back because of drone.
When I first started out with the Hookers they droned really bad and after about a month got slightly better. It was so bad that the drone around 1900rpm under moderate to heavy acceleration was louder than wot near redline, at least inside. Interior parts would vibrate, rear view mirror would blur, could barely listen to music without blasting it and my brain felt like it was about to melt and run out my ears. At one point about two weeks ago I pulled the Hookers off and pretty much ran dumps that end near the rear axle. This setup was loud! Slightly unrefined exhaust note with a lot of different vibrations and sounds, especially on cold startups. The biggest surprise was a lot less drone but still enough to be slightly annoying on my 30 minute commute. I decided to go with the MBRP axle back because of the helmholtz resonator and made of stainless steel for $433 on Amazon. I switched to a quad tip diffuser from Ikon Motorsports and no you do not need to remove the bumper to install it. Yes the MBRP is loud on startup but quickly quiets down. What really surprised me the most is how quiet it is on the inside in normal driving around town and on the highway. No drone or odd vibrations whatsoever, I'm extremely happy! The only time it is loud is when you want it to be and at wot she screams. On a 1-10 scale: Drone Stock-0 Hooker-8 Dumps-4 MBRP-0 WOT Stock-2 Hooker-4 really not that loud Dumps-9 have not heard a SS with headers and no cats so it's just a ballpark MBRP-8.5 not much quieter then dumps but more refined sound. |
