SS groaning at low rpms.
My '18 1SS is making a low pitched groaning noise that is most noticeable within the first 10 minutes after engine start. It sounds sort of like a low pitched microwave oven with just a hint of a metallic sound. It comes and goes, lasts for maybe a couple seconds at a time then disappears. That makes it hard to follow or figure out. It happens more often if the car is cold and at low rpms, like when the auto is bogging down. I hear the groan mostly when driving very slow, like 15 mph through neighborhoods. Stepping on the gas and getting the rpms up always makes it go away. Changing to manual mode and forcing the A8 to stay in gear 2 or 3, instead of 4, also prevents it from happening.
Is this expected behavior for the A8 trying to maintain low revs? Last edited by protovack; 06-03-2018 at 02:13 AM. |

I believe I am having the same problem however it is not constrained to 10 minutes. At any point in any gear around 1000-2000 rpm with about 10% throttle applied, you will hear a low gurgling sound.

Any chance its coming from the sound tube? It enters the cabin above the gas pedal Plugged mine with foam

Do you have the NPP exhaust?

Yes I have NPP exhaust, but it doesn't sound like the NPP rattle.
It literally sounds like a big microwave oven coming on for seconds at a time, then going away. |

Actually, if you are still in warranty, just go get it checked out...before you go, use your phone to take video of the noise so they don't tell you "our mechanic couldn't reproduce the noise".
