Abnormal sound from Whipple SC
https://youtu.be/Q-ifw9IZgJ8
I got Whipple SC on my car and ran about 20000 miles for 11 month. It was working very nice, but recently it starts to make some abnormal noise from SC. Sounds like gear lash , however even I can hear the sound in the cabin. From the video above, you can hear clearly when I decel. Thanks for any comments. |

I found the reason of the sound. It was the tensioner pulley and idler. Actually, it has some problem from the first. The clearance btw pulley and bearing is too wide. I checked 3 cars got Whipple S/C, and has all the same issue.
I believe that the wide clearance made some shake and it made the wider gap inside tensioner as time goes. (I ran about 30000 mi with S/C) When I checked the diameters for the bearing and pulley of mine, it showed 40mm and 41mm. What the XXXX. The pulley shakes alot , interferes with the body and makes some noise. Better check. Now I am making a new "tight inner diameter" pulleys. |

This is the tension pulley. As I described , it touched the body and has some scratches on the both. even, the bearing of the all pulleys are not for high speed rev. so I changed all bearing. totally 7 bearings. Feels the much smoother. |
