ZL1 A10 DIY Fluid change?

Hello folks,

I have never been into wrenching on my own cars but have made the commitment to try on my very first Camaro.
Already started changing my own engine oil/filter and will be changing out the diff fluids soon. The only one that I'm a little confused with is the A10 transmission. This link is the only video so far that I have found that discusses the A10:

So if any of you have more personal, first hand experience with the A10, I have the following questions;

1. What fluid is used/recommended? the manual says Dexron HD but I have seen referenced to Dexron ULV.
2. How much of said fluid should be on hand?
3. What is the best procedure?
4. What tools are you using?

Thanks in advance,

Martin

Kudo's to you for the DIY. HOWEVER, the video, while useful, shows only the procedure for checking fluid level (since there is no dipstick), not the procedure for changing the fluid entirely. Changing the transmission fluid is much, much more involved and is not DIY for most people. It involves tapping into the transmission fluid cooling loop and adding new fluid as the old is pumped out with the car running. I'd recommend you have this done at a qualified service locale or a performance shop.

thanks for the quick feedback.
I guess ill leave the transmission to the dealer
Maybe someone figures out a way to tackle it as a DIY with some new DIY home tools.

You'd have to drop the pan but that wouldn't get all of the fluid out.

I guess...I'm wondering "WHY?"

Does your car have 10 hours of track time on it already? If so, kudos... but I'd still take it to the dealer for the service.

No. I wish. Although i do intend to get on a track soon.
I'm just on a role recently of getting my garage set up with what i would need to service the car myself (as much as reasonably possible). I also have been reading that changing the automatic transmission fluid earlier and more often is actually the way to go. I'm not 100% convinced but i wanted to be ready just in case.

Got it. My POV on this is I'm very hands on and I have a lot of experience. However, the A10 is just too messy & complex for me to "want" to work on it. I've done engine oil, diff fluid, brake fluid and pads so far on my car about 6 times through, all very easy jobs. The A10, ehh I'll leave that to GM. Good luck!
